Docents for the Mason County Museum located on the second floor of the Historical Building met Thursday for an informational business meeting and luncheon. Led by museum president, Nancy Jordan, docents were given a list of contact numbers, some refresher “do’s” and & “don’ts” plus a complimentary cookbook from the Cherokee Rose Antique Shop. The Museum will open for the 2017 season on Thursday, March 2nd, and end on Saturday November 18th.
The annual Book and Bake Sale is the primary fundraiser for the Friends of the Library. We need your book donations as soon as possible. Book donations can be dropped off at the library. If you have books to donate, please pack them in cardboard boxes. Use separate boxes for fiction and nonfiction, if possible. An extended special preview opportunity and sale for members of the Friends of the Library will be held on Friday, March 31 from 2 p.m.

Recipes of the Texas Governor’s Mansion on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at ll:30 a.m. in the Heart of Texas Meeting Room, 113 North Church Street, Brady Texas YES!!! REALLY!!! The members of the local chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas are holding their annual Scholarship Luncheon at that time, and this year’s program will include recipes detailed from the First Ladies of Texas themselves.
On Saturday, March 4, 2017, the office of Congressman Conaway will be hosting an Academy Day event for students interested in applying to a Military Service Academy. The event will be held from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. at Angelo State University, MCS Building, Room 100, 2200 Deana Drive in San Angelo. The Academy Day program will feature information about the nomination process.

The Hill Country Astronomers (HCA) will meet at 6:30 PM, Monday, March 6, at Hill Country University Center in Fredericksburg. Mark Ward, club vice president, will present a program on the winter Milky Way. HCA’s members live in Central Texas. Some members are experienced and accomplished astronomers, while others are beginners.
Second Chance – Mason Animal Rescue is sponsoring its second annual Pawtail Party on Saturday, April 22, 2017. The party is being hosted by Keith and Sue Kaan at their residence on Comanche Creek beginning at 6:30 p.m. and will feature an outstanding array of things to sample and enjoy.
Mason Post 8554 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, through the National Headquarters, sponsors an essay contest each year for the 6th thru the 8th grade elementary, which is referred to as The Patriot’s Pen with the theme as “The America I Believe In”. We had 52 entries of which we selected three local winners which were Tate E.
The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library is hosting two special events next week. On Tuesday, Houston artist Vickie McMillan will be in the Stribling Room to lead you in creating our community collaborative painting #2. It will be unique in depicting our history and culture. Vickie will be here until 3:00 p.m.

Social Club
