The regular meeting of the Mason Garden Club will be on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Stribling Room of the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Library, 410 Post Hill Rd. Guest speaker will be Charlotte Weiss of McGregor who will speak on “Hummingbirds”. Charlotte has been watching and researching hummingbirds for many years now and bring us her knowledge and love of these wonderful little creatures.

Have you ever wondered how you would respond if a person came into to your place of business threatening you or your customers with a gun? The 452nd District Attorney’s Office is hosting an educational presentation for the community to learn more about active shooter situations. The presentation will be on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.

Mark your calendars! Opening Day for Mason Youth Baseball and Softball will be on Saturday, March 25th. Come early, hungry and stay all-day! We will serve a BBQ brisket meal (meat donated by Tommy and Joyce Durst) for this year’s opening day fundraiser event. We have 208 baseball and softball players this year!

The members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold their monthly meeting Tuesday, March 14 at 6:30 PM at the new location in the Greater Works center at Mesquite and Brazos Streets. We encourage those veterans that served in Desert Storm forward to visit us and we offer a free one year membership to those who have not previously been members of the VFW. I will serve my FAMOUS “Red Adair Chili” that eve, so come join us—for FMI.

Last Wednesday, St. Paul Lutheran began our journey to the cross with Jesus with our Ash Wednesday worship service. Our message was a chancel drama entitled “Why Do We Wear Ashes”? The Hill Country Sheep and Goat Organization (formerly called the Hill Country Chapter of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association Auxiliary) offers several scholarship opportunities for high school seniors, undergraduate college students, and post graduate students attending a Texas college, university, or accredited technical school. In 2016, we awarded $18,500 in scholarships.
