There will be no The American Legion Fort Mason Post 285 meeting on Thursday, January 12, 2017. The next regularly scheduled meeting of The American Legion Fort Mason Post 285 will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at 6:30pm, at The American Legion Post Hall, 237 Post Hill [behind the Jail.
The Mason County Republican Women will hold their bimonthly luncheon on Wednesday January 17th, 2018, at 11:30 am in the Stribling Room at the Mason Library. Members and guests will gather at 11:30 am for meet and greet with the luncheon starting promptly at noon. Our distinguished speaker will be David Heckert who is a US Army veteran, and currently a Field Leader with the Texas Border Volunteers.
The Llano Country Opry will host “A Salute To Loretta Lynn and Memories Of Conway Twitty” with Tayla Lynn and Tre Twitty on Saturday, January 13, at the Lantex Theater in downtown Llano, Texas. The shows will begin at 2:30 PM & 7:30 PM and admission is $15.00 per person.
For the New Year, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) released the top 10 worldwide fitness trends for 2018, and Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center Director John Phelps said the local fitness and aquatic center offers them all. The ACSM Health and Fitness Journal reported the 2018 trends are based on surveys completed by more than 1,800 ACSM health and fitness professionals worldwide. Mason ISD provides many educational programs to meet the needs of our students. One of the programs offered is the Gifted and Talented Program, which has been planned for young, able learners. Listed below are a few characteristics of children who may benefit from the program. Please review these characteristics to see if they describe your child.
The Mason Garden Club will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at 2 p.m.in the Stribling Room of the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. Chris Siefert, Master Gardener from Fredericksburg, will give a program on “Composting.” For more information, contact Joan Lindley at 347-7007. Visitors are invited.
High school and college graduations may be months away, but now is the time to starting thinking about applying for scholoarships, according to Shannon Worrell, Mason County Farm Bureau president. Mason County students are encouraged to apply for more than $100,000 in Farm Bureau college scholarships offered on the local, district and state levels. “These scholarships and awards are an excellent opportunity for Farm Bureau families to earn money to pursue their dreams,” Worrell said.
Life has returned to normal at our house. I finally took down all the Christmas decorations. A new calendar has been hung on the office wall. And best of all, the grandkids are back in school. Happy New Year. Class Meetings resume this week on Wednesdays at the Parsonage with soup at 6 and the meeting at 6:30. The Patriot Warriors Lunch will be Friday, January 12, beginning at 11:30, at the Community Building in the park.

The public is invited to the artist reception on Thursday, January 11, 5pm to 7pm at Arnold Art Gallery in Mason, Texas. Laura Lewis is a professional artist specializing in landscapes of the High Plains. Lewis is known for her large mural commissioned for the Chevron building in Midland. She and her husband moved to Mason County in 2011 and since then she has been enjoying the beauty of the Hill Country.
