As I sit here and type out this article, I am watching out the front window. The wind is causing the trees to sway gently to and fro. The sunshine beaming down makes the perfect warmth for the otherwise chilly day. I am jealous of the birds outside singing. They are belting out almost a rap version of their happiest songs. Fall is quickly giving way to winter and this day verifies that beyond any doubt.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Officers of Second Chance - Mason Animal Rescue, I am pleased to present a picture of the design approved by the Board for our no-kill shelter and adoption center. I would like to explain that this design has been an evolutionary process.
The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on September 25, 2017 at the School Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm with members Tommy Bierschwale, Jim Bob Smith, Julio Ramon, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Treg Hudson and Kathryn Martin in attendance.
On September 26, 2017 the Riata Service Organization’s monthly meeting was held at the home of Joan Whitaker. Hostesses were Kay Evans and Jerrie Owens with 28 members in attendance. The meeting was called to order by President, Laura Tallent. Members recited the Womens Creed, reports were given by officers and committee chairpersons.

“Boss” Lion Jim Heidelberg convened the quarterly business meeting of the Mason Lions Club on October 3. Thirty-one members were present. Separate meetings of the club’s Board of Directors and the directors of the Mason Lions Club Charitable Foundation preceded the business meeting. The Lions Club members applauded Lion Marty Bentson for his exemplary leadership role in the “11th Annual Gem of the Hill Country 5K/10K Run/Walk” fund raiser held on Saturday, September 30.
It seems that this week we may have a taste of Fall weather to go along with all of the Fall activities we have in town. One of the challenging issues we have all dealt with over the past few months is the constant pesky companions we have whenever we are out of doors.
The Mason Study Club began their year with a heart wrenching and heart-warming presentation by Carol Kothmann of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society (BEHS). Carol, having passed the stringent requirements of BEHS, has been an equine foster since February of this year. BEHS, based in College Station, was formed in March 2005 by a group of horse enthusiasts who felt there was a need for a new rescue to help horses and other equines throughout Texas and Arkansas.
