SAN ANTONIO –The Junior Market Lamb show contest was held on February 16, 2017 at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.
Aspen Martin of Mason, Texas was awarded Grand Champion Junior Market Lamb and received a $10,000 scholarship. She also won champion medium wool. Martin is a member of the Mason County 4-H.
Martin’s family is heavily involved in the show industry.
4H members have been practicing weekly for District Contest in Consumer Decision Making. The contest was held on Friday, February 17 at the Spur Arena in San Angelo, TX.

Second Chance – Mason Animal Rescue is sponsoring its second annual Pawtail Party on Saturday, April 22, 2017. The party is being hosted by Keith and Sue Kaan at their residence on Comanche Creek beginning at 6:30 p.m. and will feature an outstanding array of things to sample and enjoy.

This weekend, after Daddy and I had made our grocery run, he asked if I wanted to rock hunt in the creek with him. I looked at the radar and worried that we might get caught in some rain; but, finally decided that we should take our chances and head on out to the granite bed of Katemcy Creek.

Mason Post 8554 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, through the National Headquarters, sponsors an essay contest each year for the 6th thru the 8th grade elementary, which is referred to as The Patriot’s Pen with the theme as “The America I Believe In”. Twenty-two students participated in this year’s VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) an UIL opportunity, held on February 11th in San Saba, Texas two weeks ago.Mason’s High School Art Teacher, Danika Smith took a bus of 22 students early Saturday morning for the competition. Each student had an 8-15 minute interview with a juror when they were asked questions about their art piece.

Mason Cowgirls Varsity lost the lead early and couldn’t come back in a 12-0 loss to Llano on Monday.
A single by Ashlyn Gleghorn in the second inning was a positive for Mason Cowgirls Varsity.
Kelcey Doss, Gleghorn, Alana Evans, and Brittany George each managed one hit to lead Mason Cowgirls Varsity.

Mason County 4H members did a great job showing their livestock at the 2017 San Angelo Stock Show. There were 21 4H members who entered 60 head to show. The top honor went to a Grand Champion goat exhibited by Aspen Martin. Below are the full results of the show.

Wayne Carl Hofmann, Sr. went home to his Lord and Savior on February 15, 2017. As badly as we wanted him to stay with us, the Lord’s calling was greater and we know he is at peace and watching over us just as he always had.
Wayne was born to Kurt and Benellen (Lehmberg) Hofmann on September 30, 1938.
Kim Zombro, of Mason, passed away on Sunday, February 19, at the age of 51.
Survivors include her husband Barry Zombro of Mason, a daughter Brittney Rausch and husband J.R. of Fredericksburg, sisters Cindy Phillips and husband Cass and Debbie Reed and husband Wayne all of Fredericksburg, an uncle David Gardner of Fredericksburg and two grandchildren Ashlyn and Trace Rausch.
She was preceded in death by a brother John Hanson and her parents John H.
