A week ago, Monday and Tuesday, the Cowgirls and Daniel Parker competed at the State golf tournament in Austin. With aid from the spring rains, the golf course was in great condition for the State tournament. This year, both Daniel and the Cowgirls competed on the Roy Kizer golf course.
This is such a busy time of year for everyone, but it is especially busy for the students of Mason High School.
We have so many events between now and the end of school and there just aren’t enough days to have them all. We are also giving so many awards to such hard working students of MHS, that we don’t have enough room to seat everyone in our cafeteria.
As another successful year of FFA is drawing to a close, the Mason Chapter Officers will be holding the annual FFA banquet on Thursday, May 12, in the school cafeteria. Admission is free and Fajitas will be served starting at 5:30 P.M. and the banquet will begin at 6:00.
Everyone is welcome to attend and recognize the hard work and numerous achievements FFA students have accomplished throughout the year.
The Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country will hold its final art show, “The Last Picture Show,” on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7, 2016. The Gala Opening Reception for the show will be on Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Works by member artists will be on display at the Eckert Civic Center, 1024 McKinley Avenue in Mason.
The Jr High golfers have half their season under way. Starting after spring break, the Punchers and Cowgirls are well on their way to another fine season. Because of the lack of 2A schools offering golf, we have had to look to the larger schools for competition.
On April 21, we started our season in Lampasas.
The Board of Trustees of Mason ISD is pleased to introduce John Schumacher to the community of Mason. Mr. Schumacher was recently named the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools and comes to Mason with many years of experience.
For the past two years, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Johnson City ISD.
Hill Country Memorial will host a free ear, nose and throat (ENT) health presentation on Tues., May 10 at Nacho’s Café in Mason.
A complimentary dinner will be provided at 6:00 p.m., with a presentation to follow. Nacho’s Café is located at 621 Fort McKavit St.
Those concerned about adult or pediatric ENT health issues are invited to meet HCM ENT specialist, Tracy Byerly, MD, and family nurse practitioner Carrie Culpepper.
The Mason Cowgirl softball team defeated Hermleigh Lady Cardinals on Wednesday 10-6 for the Bi-district championship.
The Cowgirls came out strong with their bats scoring 5 runs in the first 2 innings of the game. The Cowgirls racked up 17 hits in the game with 4 doubles and 1 triple. Not only did the Cowgirls get the job done on offense but they also did a great job on defense.
Mason County Habitat for Humanity coordinators are happy to present the “Hye Society Wine Tasting Tour” as one of many fantastic live auction items for this year’s event on Saturday, May 14th. Chauffeur driven round-trip transportation will be provided for six people from the Mason Square to Hye any Saturday between August 1st & December 1st.
