On April 1, 2016, the Friends of the Mason Library will hold their Annual Book and Bake Sale. Members of the Friends of the Library can browse and buy from 2:00 to 6:00 on Friday, April 1. On Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 8:00 – 4:00 everyone is invited to come and purchase some gently used books, movies and CDs and as well as some delicious homemade baked goods. On April 2, 2016, you can also pick up plants for your spring garden on sale in the Library parking lot by the Mason Garden Club.
Mason County Library will host Nonnie’s Kitchen on Friday, February, 26, 2016 from 12 noon to 1:30 in the Stribling room. This hands on cooking class will cover Southern Funeral Food. Pimento cheese is a staple in the southern diet so just imagine biting into a pimento cheese fritter (fried ball of cheese) then top it with hot pepper jelly?
Musician and singer Lauren Pelon will perform at 7:00 P.M. in the Stribling Room of the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library tomorrow night, Feb. 25th. Ms. Pelon will present “Music from Backyard & Front Porch,” and she will perform on approximately twenty ancient and modern wind, string and free-reed instruments, and voice.
All interested local charities and organizations must fill out an application for distribution of funds from the 2015 Lions 5K/10K event. Application forms are available at all 3 Mason Banks. The deadline is March 1st.
The Llano Women’s Culture Club met for their annual luncheon/business meeting at Ben E Keith reception hall. The tables were adorned with a festive La Fiesta theme by hostesses Julie Woodall, Virginia Walker, Diane Thompson, Judy Miller and Gail Johnson. Pat Hurst, Judi Riley, and Judy Box were approved for membership.
It is always so interesting to talk to visitors to the Mason Square Museum. Docents ask where are they from, how did they hear about Mason, what are they interested in? On Saturday, February 20th, the docent was Dee Gregg when Matthew Hall, pictured on the left, and Tyler Devine, pictured on the right, visited the Museum. Matthew is traveling the state, stopping at historical sites in each of the 254 counties in Texas.
The Mason tennis team is off and running this spring as they have completed several dual matches as well as playing in two JV tournaments and hosting two varsity tournaments. Although several of the boys and girls that will be playing tennis later are still MIA due to basketball season, we have had lots of good tennis played. Dorris Marie Cole, 92, of Fredericksburg and Mason, Tx, formerly of Sebastian, Tx, was born on October 28, 1923, in Patroon, Texas, to Quincy Tucker Chandler and Almira Eddins Chandler. Dorris passed away on February 20 in Fredericksburg. Dorris was the youngest of four children. Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers and sister, Earl Chandler, Thomas Chandler and Lucille Hanks. Dorris married “the love of her life”, Jesse Howard Cole, on December 20, 1941.
Eddie L. Eckert, Jr., of Mason, passed away on Friday, February 19, at the age of 79. Eddie is survived by two daughters Brenda Gibson and husband Gerald, of Mason and Barbara Pfeil and husband Roy of Mason, a half-sister Irene Thurman, 7 grandchildren: Eddie McBee and wife Penny, Kimberly Brown, Chris Gibson, Travis Eckert, Jaclyne Grosse, Royce Pfeil and Reece Pfeil, 8 Great-grandchildren: Shalla McBee, Austin Miller, Alexis Brown, Hannah Brown, Kadynce Bradley, Kyleigh Bradley, Rylee Bradley ...
The 26th of February marks the start of Operation Desert Storm. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8554 Mason will hold a remembrance of this event in our history.
