“Boss” Lion Marty Bentson gaveled to order the weekly meeting of the Mason Lions Club on August 29. The Lion’s Club had two guests, Brooke Wheelock and Sloan Townsend, seniors from Mason High School. Lion J. D. Kidwell was responsible for the program. The speaker was Tyson Broad, whose connections go far back in Mason history.
I have been asked several times if the City is still under mandatory watering restrictions, and the short answer is YES. Although we have had some good rains during the past month, if you look at the longer term problems we are still in a very dry period and our water system is working overtime to keep up with the demands.
The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on August 6, 2018 at the School Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm with members Jim Bob Smith, Julio Ramon, Treg Hudson, Ryan Jordan and Kathryn Martin in attendance. Tina Cantu-Navarro was absent.
Texas A&M College of Architecture has announced the former students who have distinguished themselves as leaders and humanitarians in their respective fields who will be honored as College of Architecture Outstanding Alumni for 2018 at a banquet to be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018 at The George Hotel in College Station. The honorees were nominated by former students and selected for their outstanding achievements by a faculty committee of the College.
The Hickory Underground Water Conservation District was proud to sponsor Isaiah Losoya, son of Taunya Ruffin, to attend this year’s 4-H Water Ambassador Camp. Isaiah is a senior this year at Brady High School. The 4-H2O Leadership Academy is an annual summer experience for high school students to learn about all the various aspects of water in Texas.

Lion Jess Irwin was responsible for the program. He noted that Judge Bearden last week had some comments about lawyers so Lion Jess was going to talk about judges!
(Mason, Texas) – The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) has elected Robert R. Hofmann, judge, 452nd District Court, Mason, Texas, to the NCJFCJ Board of Directors. “Judge Hofmann’s lifelong dedication and passion to child welfare goes beyond his multi-county judicial district,” said Judge John J. Romero, Jr., NCJFCJ president.
Hill Country Community Action Association (HCCAA) is a non-profit organization that provides services in Mason County. These services include the Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP), Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) Case Management, and the Weatherization Program. The Mason Senior Center nutrition program is also under HCCAA. The nutrition program will change administration beginning October 1, 2018; the program will then be under the care of Mason County.
Rheumatologist Michael Abel, M.D., FACR, joined the Hill Country Memorial Medical Group in August. Abel is based in Fredericksburg and is currently the only full-time rheumatology specialist in the Hill Country. “Dr. Abel brings a specialized expertise to our team and a highly knowledgeable approach to his field, and we are excited to welcome him,” said Clint Kotal, Chief Operating Officer of the HCM Medical Group.
Mason, Texas - Mason County Habitat for Humanity, Inc. (“MCHFH”) is nearing the end of its homeowner selection process for the home it will build in 2019. MCHFH’s Homeowner Selection Committee held public meetings in July to explain the selection process and requirements to anyone interested in being the buyer of the 2019 Habitat home.
