Temporary “Boss” Lion Michael Murphy gaveled to order the weekly meeting of the Mason Lions Club on September 11.
The Lion’s Club had four guests, Bailey Taylor and Lucas Martin, seniors from Mason High School. The other two guests were Martin Ash and Bob Shipman.
Lion Joel Kuykendall was responsible for the program.
For a few days, the clouds have cleared off and we have seen some blue skies, and it has been a tremendous blessing to have the rains of the past couple of weeks. It has generally been a slow and soaking rain that our land needed, and with the changes this has brought the City is removing the Mandatory Water Conservation requirements regarding the usage of treated water for outdoor landscape watering and other household needs.
Sheree Hardin of Mason, Texas was recently named to the United Way of the Concho Valley Board of Directors. She will represent Mason County in her new position and provide information regarding the needs of its residents to the Board.
The United Way of the Concho Valley supports 17 program providers that render assistance to individuals in the fourteen county area known as the Concho Valley.
The Mason ISD Mentor Program is under new leadership. Shayne Smith recently assumed this role and will be teaming up with Julie Armstrong, Elementary and JH Counselor. Shayne has been an active participant in the program for the past seven years.
The mentor program has been a large influence in the lives of many students over the last 20 years.
On Friday, the Punchers welcomed the Johnson City Eagles to town for their first home game of the 2018 season. Though only the second game of the season for Mason, the Punchers showed that they are a team with ambition and strength for the rest of the year.
The Eagles received the opening kickoff; but, their possession didn't allow them to make any significant push down field.
AUSTIN, TX — The University Interscholastic League honored Mason High School on Friday, September 7 for its 2018 Conference 2A UIL Lone Star Cup victory. The UIL Lone Star Cup trophy presentation took place during pregame of Mason’s varsity football game against Johnson City at R. Clinton Schulze Stadium, which began at 7:30 p.m.

The Lion's Club had five guests, Tessa Guice and Josh Fluhmann, seniors from Mason High School, and Tad Kirby, son of Mark Kirby. The other two guests were Nolan Donop, long-time Mason resident, and Brian Garnett, Nolan's son-in-law and escort.
Lion Mark Kirby was responsible for the program.
The rains for the past ten days have been a blessed relief from the weeks of hot and dry weather, and we are all grateful for the change. We have not yet lifted the water restrictions, but if the clouds and occasional rain continue we will be looking at removing them in the near future.
The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on August 27, 2018 at the School Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm with members Jim Bob Smith, Julio Ramon, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Ryan Jordan, Treg Hudson and Kathryn Martin in attendance.
