On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, Riata’s monthly membership meeting was held at the beautiful home of Doris Courtright. Co- Hostesses were Susan Coe and Becky Griffith. A delicious salad luncheon was enjoyed, with 28 members in attendance.
The meeting was called to order by President, Laura Tallent. Members recited The Woman’s Creed and committee reports were given by chairpersons.
The Mason County Library was the setting for the first meeting of the Menard Kimble Mason TRTA Unit. Thirty people were in attendance for the September 6 meeting.
District 15 president, Dr. Janis Petronis, from Stephenville, was the guest speaker. She reminded us that our Defined Benefit Annuity was once again before the Legislature.
The Mason County Republican Meeting held their bi-monthly meeting at noon September 19th, in the Stibling Room of the Mason County Library. The guest speaker was Suzanne Conaway, wife of US Congressman Mike Conaway of the 11th district which includes Mason. Suzanne informed and delighted those attending with what life is like for the spouse of our representatives.
Also, in attendance was Shane Stolarczyk, candidate for the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Over the Labor Day weekend, two of our Mason quilters entered the Vereins Quilt Show held in Fredericksburg. Lynn Hedges & Ceverene Lackey had never entered a judged show and both placed in the 2 person quilt catagory.
Both winning quilts were machine quilted by Elizabeth Evans. Proud of all three of these girls!
Lynn is a fairly new quilter and has made several after attending a new quilters beginning class taught in February, 2016, at the library by Carolyn Thomas; Ceverene moved to Mas ...
Steady Steps is proud to announce our CDA recipients: Patricia Thomas, the Older Infant/Younger Toddler teacher; Casandra Castillo, the Younger 3’s preschool teacher; and, Natalia Ramon, the Toddler teacher. These women have been awarded a national Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential from the Council of Professional Recognition in Washington, DC in recognition of outstanding work with young children.
The Second Chance Spayghetti Lunch held on Sunday, September 9 was a success! Thanks to the support of the many attendees and the hard work of Mason High School student volunteers, Boy Scouts, Second Chance Board members and volunteers, the spay/neuter program is now funded, and we are taking applications!
Spay/neuter services are expensive and many pet owners in Mason and Mason County cannot afford it.

ASHA Approved CE Provider Status Demonstrates Commitment to High-Quality CE Programming for Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists
(Sept 17, 2018) – The Continuing Education Board (CEB) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) recognized Minds on the Move, co-owned by Misty Standard, MS CCC-SLP, C/NDT and Jennifer Griffith, OTR, C/NDT on September 1, 2018, by reapproving them for an additional five years as an ASHA Approved Continuing Education (CE) Provider.
While Hurricane Florence was lashing the Carolinas, we here in Texas were dealing with a subtropical system that had moved in from the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday. By game time on Friday night, with both sides of the stadium full of fans, everyone nervously eyed the large thunderheads moving toward Mason from the southeast.
The Punchers and the Broncos didn't allow themselves to be distracted by the weather.
