Bread Machine French Bread Practical Baker Original Recipe I have one of these really fancy bread machines, but have never been too impressed with the quality of the breads I’ve prepared in it. I decided to come up with a recipe that produced a better product, so I began to experiment. Since it takes 4 hours to make a loaf of bread in my machine, I got to spend a lot of time wondering just exactly how each loaf would turn out.
What Do You Want? The newspaper is made up of many different items. We have photos and articles each week that reflect what's currently going on in the community. We have items that talk about accomplishments and happenings of our citizens, and we try to let our readers know about things that are going to be happening in the near future so that they can make their plans accordingly. We have a calendar of events on page 8 that keeps track of weekly and monthly events, as well as letting ev ...
Music Just so you know what you missed!! What an absolutely wonderful, fantastically beautiful, and glorious event the Mason Chamber Music Festival fundraiser concert was! My favorite part--almost (but not quite) more than the music--was having the opportunity to visit with Bruce Williams (Artistic Director of the Artisan Quartet) and his colleagues about their lives in music and to hear a bit about why they do what they do.
Abortion The shedding of innocent blood Since Roe V Wade became the law of the land, this nation has the blood of more than 60 million innocent lives on it’s hands. A holocaust of staggering proportion. The slaughter of the innocent. A murder of convenience. Those of us who read God’s word and have been followers of Jesus Christ for many years know that our God is a God of mercy.
Baking Powder Biscuits courtesy: King Arthur Flour As any of you who’ve been reading my columns over the last several years know, I’ve never found a biscuit recipe I didn’t like. And even though I’ve got 8 or 10 of them in my “cook book,” I never quit looking for new acquisitions to add.
If you missed him last fall, don’t miss him this time! Country singer and musician J. L. Wilkins is back by popular demand tomorrow night in the Stribling Room at 6:30 P.M. He’s a fantastic entertainer, and it’s a new show. Admission is free! DVDs: Gosnell A Private War Black ‘47 Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Scooby-Doo!
Will Rogers once said we shouldn’t complain about how much money politicians are paid, since quality entertainment is expensive. No doubt that’s true, but I’m beginning to wonder if America can afford to be entertained at the current level. Unfortunately it looks as if future entertainment may end up costing a lot more than we pay now.
My Billy Goat and I… For most of my adult life, I’ve bought into the “balance of nature” thing, perhaps ignited by reasonable absorption of elementary school “book learnin’” about plants, oxygen, carbon dioxide, tides and other stuff. Now, I’m ready to “sell back” a long-held supposition that squirrels and acorns come out generally even on matters of supply and demand. Hogwash.
February in Texas: Spring days and winter days, 90 degree highs followed by 40 degree highs. The spring like days have been glorious. The winter days are best spent by the fire. The Art United Methodist Church will host lunch for the Habitat Care-A-Vanners on February 26. Bring food to church Sunday.
School. The place to get an education. Especially at lunch time. We learn to barter and trade. Your ham-and-cheese for my tuna sandwich. I’ll take your apple if you’ll take my banana. We also learn to buy and sell. Give you a quarter for those cookies. I’ll take fifty cents for this piece of pie. And we even share sometimes. Some days we bring our lunch. Made with love by Mom. Or someone. Everything tucked nicely in lunchboxes. And tossed in a brown paper sac ...
