Job Satisfaction
Dear Editor,
When we moved back to Texas 11 years ago after doing missionary work my husband, Daniel Hinckley, was excited to be able to work for his hometown of Mason as an employee of Blackwell Environmental. He commuted daily from Fredericksburg and soon became friends with various city employees like Joe Martinez and John Palacio when he came on as city manager.
What Is This Thing Called Love?
Few things have challenged the human race like the attempt to define this thing we call love. In the spirit of Valentine, the day of love; here are some classic attempts to define this elusive motion.
Love is ---
--- a hole in the heart. (Ben Hecht)
--- the delusion that one woman differs from another.
Camp Bread
From the Texas Rangers Cookbook

As noted, this recipe comes from the Texas Rangers Cookbook, and it’s not hard to close your eyes and see a bunch of steely-eyed Rangers sitting around a campfire outside Ft. Stockton, tearing off pieces of the bread, and then dunking it in the pinto bean pot!
Happy Valentine’s Day Friday! If you’re in the mood for romance this month, we’ve made some great titles and DVDs easy to find by putting together a special display. We’ve put out some super-cute children’s Valentine-themed books, too. We had a great time with J. L. Wilkins last week, and if you couldn’t come, we’re sorry you missed it!
The ‘Super Bowl’ Re-Hashed…
I never have to look at calendars or “study up” on Roman numerals to know which Super Bowl comes next. Instead, I calculate years of marriage, since “knot-tying” with Brenda occurred in 1966. Thus, I can tell you that the Next Super Bowl will be number fifty-five.
Okay, if you must, challenge me to write the “Roman numeral way”--Super Bowl LV.
My intent in this piece is to contend that this year’s “big game” may have more “side road
Valentine’ Day is this Friday. I usually find something for my grandkids. However, I have only purchased a present for my great grandson. Does this mean I have changed focus on grandkids? I guess I better get busy to stay in my families good graces. Or maybe, I will just get a bag of chocolate and give them some only if they come see me before I eat it all.
A Bowl That Was Less Than Super
It was difficult to churn up much enthusiasm going into Sunday's Super Bowl, if only for the fact that neither team really mattered much to me. It's not that I don't like the Rams and the Patriots, I just didn't really care which of them ended up winning the title on Sunday.
My other problem with the Super Bowl, and it's been one that I've had for years, is playing the game on a Sunday night.
Cornmeal Rolls

Now this particular recipe attracted my attention because it was something I’d never seen before. It looked pretty easy and straight-forward, just what I look for in a recipe, and I was most pleased with the resulting rolls. I urge you to give them a try.
Ingredients:
2 ½ teaspoons dry yeast
Pinch of sugar
1 ¼ cups lukewarm water
1 cup yellow corn meal
2 teaspoons coarse salt
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 large egg, beaten lightly
