Twas the day after Christmas and Great Grandma is entertaining new great grandson Tanner. Well, I hope I am. As I write this a week early due to early press times next week, I hope that everyone had a Blessed Christmas. We expect family at our Christmas celebration and hope that everyone gets to celebrate with those they love. Happy New Year.
‘Twas the night after Christmas. And all through the house. Everyone slept. Even the mouse. The stockings that were hung Now lay on the floor. Santa’s gone. There’ll be no more. So many guests. So many laughs. So much food. Might have to fast. Paper and ribbons And boxes galore. TV on. What’s the score? Leftover ham. Hmmm, a sandwich. Jell-o salad. Some more pie. Hot cocoa. Tamales and frijoles. Hot toddy. Angels soar. Watch the little o ...
We are in the season of Winter. And as the gardens slow down and produce our cold weather plants there are many unfinished jobs to do. Let's look at Pruning. I often will add a book and this one is an excellent book I found in our Llano LIbrary in the Back to Basic section.
A Christmas Gift Under the Dome On Thursday, for the third time in eight years, Mason will be playing for the state 2A-Division 1 title in Dallas. The fact that the playoff game occurs less than a week before Christmas.... that's just a gift we have to be grateful for this year. The Punchers finished their regular season almost nine weeks ago.
Buttermilk Bread for the Bread Machine courtesy: Genious Kitchen We like a lot of different breads. Chewy breads for sopping up pinto bean juice; not-so-chewy ones for soups; soft bread for dinner and toasting for breakfast. This is one of those soft breads. I had some buttermilk left over from another cooking project so I jumped on the internet and searched for “buttermilk bread,” and this little gem came up!
The end of the year is fast approaching, and as I look back, I’m amazed again at the generosity this community shows the library. The Friends of the Library book sale and the Mason Study Club fundraisers are incredibly successful, and we’ve received many other donations and memorials from individuals and businesses.
Name that rifle My friend, Randy Young, and I were watching a movie once, the one where George Clooney was a football player in the 1920s. One scene, which was supposedly set in 1925, showed a Model T Ford, and Randy said, “Look at those fenders! They didn’t make fenders like that until 1927!
Good Cheer on a Gloomy Day… Conversations about the life of President George H. W. Bush didn’t remain on shore as more than 3,000 folks left Galveston last week for a short cruise on the Carnival Valor. About the time we put out to sea, the United States’ 41st president was completing the final miles of life’s journey, aboard a special train from a final funeral service in Houston to College Station for interment next to his beloved wife, Barbara. Texas Highway 6, near the tracks ...
Merry Christmas. This is a really special Christmas at our house. We welcomed our first great grandson to our family last week. Tanner is the most beautiful baby. He weighed almost 9 pounds and is 22 inches long. Even when he fusses, he is darling. Our Christmas will be such fun.
Christmas. Excitement. Anticipation. Going out of town. Or company’s coming. And Santa Claus. Sleigh bells ring, Are you listening? It’s a gearing-up. And a winding-down. All at the same time. Big holiday. End of a year. Wrapping gifts. Stringing lights. Decorating trees. Lighting candles. Saying prayers. Singing carols. Feeling the heart. Feeling the heat. Especially in the kitchen.
