Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” LOVE a routine! When we get in a rut, we move in furniture! But the catch is that all our “ruts” are fun ones. If you’ve followed us in the newspaper (cuz we’re THAT interesting!), you may have noticed Valentine’s Day is always at Lenore Newsom’s, April (wildflower season) is always at Kacey Butcher’s, September is always at Mary Carlman’s (she has the best shady deck), and Halloween belongs to Joan Lindl ...
"Don't Miss These" The things that the Library gets for "us," are just wonderful. Last Tues. nite was a Western Music artist (heavy on the "artist"). All Mason would have loved it. It's free & something you won't see elsewhere. Patty Grote is a wonderful Librarian & host of these things & also the Library Club. Y'all come Weasie Lange
Road Maintenance We would really like to know what all is considered road maintenance. We always hear that it is “too dry to blade the road”, so what exactly are the crews doing when it’s not possible to blade the roads? One thing they are NOT doing is keeping the culverts clear.
Artisan Bread Courtesy “Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day” Artisan Bread, is, by definition, home made bread that is made in small batches rather than in a large, commercial baking operation. It is simple, easy, and you can store the made-up dough in the refrigerator for up to a week. Just pull out a large hand full of the dough, shape into a ball (boule), let it rest for about 40 minutes, and then pop it into the oven. The Master Recipe: Boule (Artisan Free-Form Loaf) Makes 4, 1 ...
A new attraction is coming to the library—Camp Discovery! Camp Discovery will be a discovery playground for young children. It will extend the length of the building on the west side of the library. It’s being constructed entirely from grants and donations: LCRA and the City of Mason; the Mason Community Foundation; Mason Study Club; and Friends of the Library!
Make Christmas Great Again If you, like many Americans, have access to a calendar, you may have noticed that it’s now December, and Christmas is just around the proverbial corner. This is not necessarily a Bad Thing unless you, like many Americans, routinely receive credit card bills that resemble the GNP of Uzbekistan.
Geriatric Term Limits?... For more than 15 years, I’ve attempted to write pieces to elicit smiles--however faint--and/or to inspire. I believe a great majority of them have been “upbeat.” Not so with this one, which may rank “down there” with the Grinch that stole Christmas. “Grinch,” of course, is fictional; mine is backed up by cold, hard facts. Many conversations among retirees in the year 2000 included pro’s and con’s of long-term care insurance coverage.

I am getting that Christmas feeling. The Christmas music is helping. The tree we put up and one strand of lights were out didn’t help. It is a work in progress at this point. I am thinking a new tree is the best solution. Class Meetings continue at the Art United Methodist Church on Wednesday evenings with soup at 6 and the meeting follows at 6:30.
All aboard! Last month before 2019. All hands on deck. Stow your carry-on under your seat. Hang on to your hats. Hold tight the reins. We’re off and running. December is our final stop. Destination: the New Year. And December is here. With it comes turquoise. And narcissus. The official birthstone. And flower. So away we go Down the slippery slope. As we slide into Winter. The descent into shorter days. The temperatures dropping. Along with the leaves. ...
