Crusty White Bread Courtesy: Delish.com This is a quick, easy bread that requires no kneading. You do have to plan ahead a little bit, but it’s a snap to put together. You make up the dough the night before, let it sit out on the table top until you get home from work the next day, then slap it in the oven.
Buenos dias, Senorita. Buenos dias, Senor. Como esta usted? Muy bien, gracias. Y usted? Bien, gracias. Adios. That was the first Spanish we kids learned. Back in the second grade. That, and learning to count. Uno, dos, tres. Quatro, cinco, seis. Siete, ocho, nueve, diez. Once, donce... You can chant it like a song. Spanish definitely has its own particular rhythm. As does any language. Two, four, six, eight. Who do we appreciate? Language. Poetic. Political. Personal. So very close to the heart ...
Easy Peach Cobbler I want to thank one of my “other mothers” Mrs. Betty Brandenberger for suggesting this week’s BITE. She says this Peach Cobbler is effortless and scrumptious!! I know there are some of you Mason County cooks out there that remember the Riata Cookbook that was gray with Red binding.
Indoor plumbing. Not all it’s cracked up to be. Must be the Season for Overflowing. Backing up. Clogged. Everybody and their dog seems to be having problems. No rest for the weary. Nor for the local plumbers. Just ask Jimmy’s Plumbing. Or Keith Higdon. Or Dale Scott Plumbing. The washing machine drains its load. Which comes back up into the shower and commode. Glug glug. Or the commode continually runs. No one knows because no one’s been there for a month. The constantly running water fil ...
Focaccia (Focolare) courtesy Valeda Coan During a recent social gathering, we sat at a table with Valeda and her husband, Don, and oddly enough, the conversation turned to baked goods recipes. I sent Valeda our favorite pizza crust recipe, and she sent us this focaccia recipe. It’s simple, straight forward, and has very few ingredients; all the things I like in a recipe!
Changing Options to Celebrate Life... The funeral service was much like many of the hundreds I attended in the century just past. The old parson--officiating in the country church--made the identical statement six times. “We won’t need any undertakers in heaven.” Each time, I glanced at the late Groner Pitts, funeral director at the service and best man at the wedding for Brenda and me almost 50 years ago.
The End Is In Sight - Hang On! Next Tuesday, March 1, 2016, is the date of the Texas Primary Election. I've actually already availed myself of the option to cast my vote early, so Tuesday is just a date on the calendar rather than an appointment with destiny for me. I urged my employees to head on over to the polls early and get their voting completed.
On Monday, I started feeling the effects of a stomach bug that I picked up over the weekend. It's unusual for me to succumb to any type of bug, and after yesterday, I now remember why it's really not a good thing for me to be sick. After having an upset stomach, and the constant bathroom visits that accompany such an affliction, I started running fever.
Editor: I am writing this letter to let the voters of Precinct 3, Mason County, know that I will not be running for re-election for Commissioner of Precinct 3 next year. I have been extremely fortunate to have served as a Mason County Commissioner and at the completion of my term on December 31, 2016, I will have been in office for 16 years.
