Bubba "Red" Neck is what you might call just one little bubble in the beer foam of life. His chance of being a success has been about the same as that of a red ant at a horned frog convention.
Red has always been unlucky. In fact, if he'd been a dog on Noah's Ark, he would've ended up with both fleas.
Things started going wrong from the get go.
Due to the Coronavirus the Mason Lions Club has not been having their weekly meeting at Nacho’s Café. We do, however, continue to work to improve the lives of people in Mason, Texas.
Lion Trey Carrington is involved in Habitat for Humanity its Aging in Place division. Trey had funds to replace a front porch for Mason resident Ann Taylor but did not have enough money to pay for the labor.
Lions Mark Hurta, Dane Phillips, Trey Carrington, and Frank Bartlett volunteered to provide the lab ...
Our doors are open again! Our building is now open for browsing from 10-4 and we have two computers available for public use. We are very excited to see everyone once again! You can even stop by and fill out the 2020 Census on one of our designated laptops. We also have more good news: we are the recipients of a 2020 Texas Book Festival Grant for $2,500!
It seems like only yesterday that my friend Roy McQueen thought himself to be “middle-aged.” Oh, he knows that life spans would need to reach three digits for this to be a literal truth.
So, he’s attempting to glide under the radar, figuring that if others don’t bring up the age thing, why should he?
But “others” are….

There are delicate moments, usually not intended to be.
This past weekend was one of sadness for our community. On Saturday morning there was the funeral for Dewey Stockbridge, a fine young man who was set on a course of living out the very best that our education system and community tries to instill in our children, and who leaves behind a young family as well as parents, relatives, friends and many who knew him as a very fine example of Mason pride and character.
Summer is almost over. The weather has treated us to some really hot days. School has started. The first day of fall is only 28 days away. Change is in the air. Most of us are ready.
Class meetings are the only thing on the Art United Methodist Church calendar. They meet Wednesday evenings at 6 for soup with the meeting at 6:30.
Happy Birthday to Reagan Palacio on August 26, and Teresa Koock on August 27.
On Saturday, we'll say our final goodbyes to my nephew, Dewey Stockbridge. That funeral is for us, the living, to share our memories and our love for one who is no longer with us on life's journey. That doesn't mean that his influence will not be a huge part of our lives going forward, it just means that we won't have him there to share those experiences.
Those who remain still have to get up and go to work every day.
Dear Gerry,
You and I, along with many others, have long sung the praises of the Mason community, both the people and the land. Unfortunately now all is not well in Masonland.
A serious case of Trespassing Thieves has broken out. Since Trespassing Thieves don’t have any Biden signs of their own, they are now stealing ours.
Trespassing Thieves have now stolen more Trump campaign signs from private property than the number of COVID cases we have had.
Sirs,
Last week I told you about my dog, Fred, who becomes dead weight when he doesn’t want to do something. It is hilarious if you are a fat, 10-year-old, black mouth cur, but not so much for a Senator.
I’m still upset about the Senate’s inability to craft a response to the coronavirus relief bill the House passed on May 15.
I was blown away by Carolyn Karner’s letter in last week’s mcn. Talk about calling a spade a spade! I could not agree with her more in that a vote for the Democratic candidate in the upcoming Presidential election will take our country down a road to ruin. Socialism/Communism will result in the loss of personal freedom including the right to defend ourselves and will be a disaster for our economy which has already been damaged by the virus our Chinese Communist trading partners have unlea ...
