Mason Young Life has been blessed to be in ministry with Mason high school students for 8 years. As we approach another amazing year of sharing the good news of the Gospel with students, we face a significant financial impact on the ministry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Out of respect for our struggling families and businesses, we chose to cancel our Spring fundraiser and rely on monthly donors, cash reserves, and “belt tightening” to keep the ministry afloat.
The Hill Country CattleWomen’s regular September meeting will be canceled. They will next meet on October 20, 2020. 10 a.m. Social, 10:30 a.m. meeting, catered box lunch. Haverlah Ranch 17900 CR 310, Cherokee, TX No speaker as awards will be given and everyone will want time to visit! “I am excited to host our October Meeting at our ranch and see everyone again!” shared HCCW member Lindsay Alexander.
There is no need to suffer chronic pain with the availability of treatments offered through Hill Country Memorial Medical Group, according to Ralph G. Menard, MD, Pain Management and Palliative Care. “I don’t have a magic wand,” Menard said. “But there are a lot of interventional treatments we can do that can greatly lessen or eliminate pain.” Menard generally treats chronic pain, which has been recently redefined by the Texas Medical Board as pain lasting longer than 30 days.
Crackling Corn Bread
Crackling or fried pork skins are used in many different fashion in South Louisiana/Creole food. Most times they’re eaten as snacks, however, I’ve also seen them used as a flavoring for grits and/or corn bread. I’ve used both pork skins and dried onions; either one will work well. Ingredients: ½ cup hog crackings or pork skins, crushed 2 tablespoons melted butter ½ cup minced green onions 1 ½ cups corn meal ½ cup flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 tablespoon sugar
Beginning this month, the Mason County Food Bank will be open on the first and third Monday of each month. Hours are 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm and pickup is curbside. Please wear your mask when talking to volunteers. The Food Bank is also delivering food to persons who are ill, disabled or who have no transportation to our site.
The Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Learning from the Ground Up Garden Grant Program was created to support schools and organizations as they teach students about the sources of their food, fuel and fiber. Doriann Rochelle Damerau joined the Mason Resource Team in July as our Mason Soil Conservationist. Doriann is the 6th generation of Damerau’s to be raised in Guadalupe County, Texas. She grew up on the family farm in Marion, Texas, where she attended Marion Independent School District, graduating class of 2016. Throughout high school, Doriann was active in FFA and 4-H.
Meet two of our newest rescues. Say hi to Buttons (left) and Bubbles (right)! These girls were surrendered to our local pound, and we are happy to be able to rescue them. They have been to the vet for vaccinations and a check up. They are about 4 months old.
Our hours this week are 10:00-4:00 and our building is open to browsing.
