Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library was awarded a $2,500 grant from the Texas Book Festival this year. Every year, the Texas Book Festival gives collection enhancement grants to libraries across the state. The funds received this year will go towards enhancing Mason County Library’s Junior section of books.
Frida is super happy to be going for a ride to the Dog Park in Fredericksburg! Her foster home reports that she is doing great. She is housebroken, enjoys riding in the car, and does well with other dogs. Frida has been spayed. She is up to date on her vaccinations, and is heartworm negative.
At Monday's regular meeting of the Mason County Commissioners' Court, the group made preparations for the upcoming courthouse restoration project by obtaining space for offices while the construction is underway. The County has already entered into discussions with the City of Mason to make use of the Richard P. Eckert Civic Center for office space while the Courthouse is being restored.

Our doors are open again! Our building is now open for browsing from 10-4 and we have two computers available for public use. We are very excited to see everyone once again! You can even stop by and fill out the 2020 Census on one of our designated laptops. We also have more good news: we are the recipients of a 2020 Texas Book Festival Grant for $2,500!
The History of Texas Cattle is Written in their DNA
When German settlers arrived in Mason County in the 1850s, they found bountiful oak–grassland savannahs occupied by herds of wild, long-horned cattle. After the Civil War ended in 1865, these wild cattle became a key to the settlers’ survival, as the cattle were rounded up and herded to rail heads in Kansas to feed a hungry nation that had been ravaged by war.
Puncher Club continues to plan for the upcoming football season. We will sponsor Dine with the Punchers on Friday August 21st. Meal tickets can be purchased at Commercial Bank, Mason Bank and the MISD administrative office. Tickets are $10 per plate and proceeds help fund various projects for our athletes. The barbeque meal will be served from 6-8 in the evening and will be served drive-thru style.
