Over 200 fishers and other celebrants came out for the 4th Annual WinterFisch Celebration on Saturday, December 5th to celebrate good times on the banks of the Llano River with an afternoon of trout fishing, fishing demos, and live music. The WinterFisch Celebration kicked off the three months long Rainbow trout fishing opportunity known as Mason County WinterFisch (WinterFisch).
We invite you to support “Operation Christmas Greeting”; Mason County’s annual fundraiser for the EMS Association. For new participants, it works like this: A donation is made to the “Greeting” fund and your name is listed on a full page Greeting Card that appears in the paper’s Christmas edition. Thursday, December 17th, is the deadline to make your donation. “Greeting” accounts are set up at each of the three Mason banks.
I can almost hear the drums beat now. That echoing beat of the Mexican Danza drums will ring in Mason once again this Thursday, December 10, 2020. We invite you to witness the celebration to the adoration of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The annual celebration commemorating the historic apparition of our Lady to a newly converted native Nahua man named Juan Diego near the hill of Tepeyac, on December 9, 1531. This Thursday the celebration will be held at Mi Pueblo restaurant.
Laura Lewis is a local artist, having moved with her husband Don to their property in Mason County in 2011. For twenty plus years, Laura Lewis has been making paintings of west Texas. While some people can only think of what west Texas does not have, Laura has enjoyed making paintings that draw attention to the beauty and resources that abound there. After living on the plains for years, the brain becomes attuned to a horizontal format and Laura’s compositions reflect that influence.
Twelve years ago, we put out a special publication celebrating the 150th anniversary of the founding of Mason County. We worked closely with Kyle Martin who provided some incredible artwork and editing skills, and used a photo of unidentified Mason County road hands from the early 1900s. At least they were unidentified until Hal Reichenau was going through some old photos and found the same image, with the names of the men written on the back.
Look at all of these sweet faces that Second Chance Mason Animal Rescue took into their care and helped to find their forever home in 2020, that is 37 and the year is not quite over yet! 32 of these were rescued directly from the Mason City Pound. These animals were cared for by our wonderful volunteers until a good permanent home could be found.
There is a fierce group of women in Mason who know how get things done and have a heart for helping others. Last year, they held an event at Restored Rocks called “Give and Gather” to raise awareness of the Mason Food Bank and collect non-perishable goods. The event was so successful that an extended-bed pick-up truck was filled to overflowing with canned goods for our local community. This year, this same group of women were joined by additional motivated ladies to host this year’s f ...

When We Lose Weight, Where Does it Go?
Almost everyone knows (especially this time of year) that if we eat a lot of food, we will gain weight. The food we eat is converted into fat, which is stored in fat cells in our bodies. The more fat that is stored, the more weight we gain. If we want to lose weight, we have to eat less, and exercise more.
Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” who absolutely insist on enjoying life, are more than happy to send 2020 on its way in style, with our inimitable Christmas Party, which includes food (of course!), friendship (of course again!) and the often-imitated-but-never-duplicated Chinese auction (the real reason for the season). This year’s Christmas party will be Tuesday, December 8th, at the home of Sherie Clarkson, who is going to have to charge a rental ...
