The COVID-19 situation has disrupted the normal functioning of the Mason Lions Club, particularly in regard to the temporary termination of regular meetings where members have frequent opportunities to interact with one another. Jessica Marie Aycock, granddaughter-in-law of Tommy Starks, was sworn in as a new Texas attorney by Mason County Judge Jerry Bearden on November 28, 2020, in the courtroom in the Mason County Court House. Attending the ceremony were John Aycock, Jessica’s husband; Tommy Starks; Bill and Nancy Starks Aycock; Dreu Bearden; and Christy McMillan.
Jessica graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2017 with a B.S.
Cases of COVID-19 have “dramatically increased” recently in the Hill Country, according to James Partin, MD, Chief Medical Officer for Hill Country Memorial.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), collects, tracks and reports on various county level data related to COVID-19 such as active and total cases, trends and hospital capacity by region.
The Mason High School Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America sponsored a campus wide drive to collect hand sanitizer for the Mason County Volunteer Fire Department. Due to COVID, the MCVFD was unable to hold their annual fundraiser.
FCCLA members considered the drive an opportunity to say “Thank You” to our local first responders and to assist in providing much needed supplies.
With the new Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Farm From School program, young students in Mason County can now virtually visit area farms right from their classroom.
Set to launch for the spring 2021 semester, Farm From School aims to connect kindergarten through second grade students with farmers in their area to see and learn firsthand where and how food is grown and raised.

Central Texas is well known for both its droughts and floods. We seem to go back and forth between these two states on a roughly five-year cycle. Our annual average rainfall is about 26” (slightly more in the eastern part of the county, and slightly less in the west). But an “average” year is uncommon.
I put this in the paper a year or so ago but had some requests for it here goes. I This is a great recipe when you have company coming and especially this time of year and you can make this ahead time. I think you could even freeze it.

Just a note to let everyone know that our Veterans hunt will continue for the twenty fifth year on the weekend of January 15. This year though, we are looking at several changes.
First of all, we are inviting only thirty five hunters. Last year we had seventy five.
To be granted use of the Community Building, we must limit occupancy to a total of seventy five.
