The widest known and most requested ghost story that Blanco has to offer is about Al Lackey. It is also the most terrifying. Late at night, a couple driving north of Blanco saw someone walking along 281 and decided to offer him a ride. They pulled over to offer the man a ride.
The Blanco girls cross country team qualified for the Region IV Meet with a third place finish at the District 25-3A Meet Monday, Oct. 14 at Jarrell High School. Sophomore Ella West finished the 3200 meter distance 15th with a time of 15:15. West had this to say about the team advancing, “I’m so proud of our team and what we have achieved.
For the first time in Blanco Youth Football history all three teams not only made the semifinals, but all three won their games and are in the championship. Blanco Freshmen defeated Lago Vista 27-6, Blanco JV defeated Junction 16-0 and Blanco Varsity defeated Kingsland 30-20 to advance. The championships will be held at Panther Stadium on Saturday, Oct.

State representative Erin Zwiener wasn’t happy with how House Bill 3 impacted school districts in Blanco County. The first-term Democrat, who represents Blanco and Hays counties in the state legislature, spoke to about 30 people at a town hall last Wednesday at the Johnson City Library. She said the bill touted as “the most significant reform of public education funding in a generation” had some good things, but added that significant changes will have to be made in the near future. ...
Blanco ISD will soon have extra help dealing with truancy. The school district board of trustees voted unanimously to accept a grant Monday night to fund a truancy officer/attendance specialist. The part-time position will help principals deal with excess absenteeism and hopefully help curtail them, said BISD Superintendent Clay Rosenbaum. While overall absenteeism isn’t a large problem, Rosenbaum said the school district has an issue with chronic absenteeism among several students.

Those who attended the 2019 Raise the Roof Fundraiser at Historic Twin Sisters Dance Hall on September 27-28 were treated to a weekend of fun contests and activities, offerings from a large group of talented vendors and entertainers, and delicious food. The Blanco County Show Barn in Johnson City was packed Saturday night for the 20th annual Wild Game Dinner. Attendees enjoyed a wide variety of things to eat, from axis, wild game chili, sausage, quail, roasted hog and more. There were 55 raffle items, in addition to door prizes, a live auction and a silent auction.
