“I’m breathing, and I’m sweating.”
Those words are always music to my ears, but when Becky shouted them during SWEAT class recently, they were particularly meaningful. Because my neck has been giving me fits, I’m careful when I move, most especially during exercise.
Over the last few years, I’ve gradually cut back on high impact exercises.
A while back, I was watching a herd of deer gathered around a feeding station where feed had apparently just been dispersed (a practice I don’t recommend). Then all of a sudden, the entire herd bounded off in one direction, tail flags up, clearly having been spooked by something. Then a few seconds later I saw a lone coyote trotting up from the opposite direction.
Summer is really here, and so are drought conditions. Water, fertilizing and mulch are the important chores to do correctly.
Mulch is a big plus. There is a term called “grasscycling” that is helpful, created by the Texas Dep. of Agriculture several years ago. It means “don’t bag it like trash.”
Collect the mowed grass and leaves from the lawn and use them as mulch or add to the compost pile.

“Wellness” is the newest buzz word I’m starting to see and hear almost everywhere. Wellness implies a sense of health, energy and vibrancy. There are many paths to wellness but they all start with a good diet, enough sleep and proper exercise.

The committee heard ideas regarding enhanced control of campus access and improved safety measures such as security cameras. San Antonio ISD Police Chief Joe Curiel told the committee that police presence works as a deterrent and preventative measure, and that increasing positive interactions between officers a ...
Top officials join in briefing about hurricane preparedness

Abbott is encouraging Texans to prepare emergency supply kits, create communication plans, prepare homes for storms and heed warnings from local officials.

Some of you know my oldest son has cerebral palsy, severe spastic cerebral quadriplegia, to be exact. When DJ was almost a year old (in 1988), I began a crash course in neonatal neurology, pediatric developmental therapy and Children’s Social Services. I embarked upon an eye-opening, life-changing journey to familiarization and exploration of a subculture in which parents of special-needs children raise their kids--a world previously unknown and unacknowledged by me at age 20.
Most new mo ...
I wish I knew the author of the following story so that I could give credit where credit is due. It was submitted by a student in a Sociology class taught by Dr. Reed H. Bradford at BYU back in the 1960s. He shared it with other students and I have kept it all these years.
