All Commissioners except one were present at the July 11 Court Session. The South County Annex is getting closer to construction and took center stage at the meeting.
Blanco County Judge, Brett Bray reported Commissioner James Sultemeier is doing well but is following his doctor’s order to rest at home. Bray expects him to return to the next Commissioners’ meeting.

Ten days in the rain forests of Costa Rica sounds like a great vacation, but for ten Johnson City high school students and four adults, this was no picnic.
“We were on the job-site by eight in the morning,” recalled Rusty Weirich, one of the adults from the First United Methodist Church.
“We sweated in the tropical heat until three in the afternoon, when the day’s cooling rain came, then sweated some more in the higher humidity the rain left behind.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced today that the nomination period for farmers and ranchers to serve on local Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committees began on Wednesday, June 15, 2017.
“Through the county committees, farmers and ranchers have a voice. Their opinions and ideas get to be heard on federal farm programs,” said FSA Administrator Sonny Perdue.

Government gridlock and political polarization did not begin in the 21st Century. In the 1880s, and for years after, Blanco County was aflame in partisan politics and divided government. Angry citizens were split right down the middle over the location of the courthouse.
On February 12, 1858 the legislature in Austin formed a new Texas county from parts of Comal, Hays, Burnet and Gillespie Counties.
Fifteen boxes of snacks, Texas sauces and other treats went into the mail this week to soldiers from Ft Hood stationed overseas.
The boxes were packed by the children at the First United Methodist Church, who added hand-made thank-you cards and bags of trail mix, also bearing thank-you messages.
“They see pictures of fighting on television,” said Ronnie Birck, the church’s education director, “so they know there’s something going on somewhere, even if they don’t fully understand it.
