Dear Editor, I’m writing about the latest battle in Llano. It seems during the drought all we heard was that we needed to reserve water and collect rain water to use on our yards, flowers, etc. Now we are told it will pollute our water system. Also, what’s the deal with Mr.
Dear Editor, City of Llano “Wild West” event organizers relegated political parties and candidates to the courthouse square – the least active area of the entire weekend. Perhaps lost on these organizers is fact that elected officials, i.e. political office holders, are the nucleus of our community, our state and our nation.
Dear Editor, Electric utility bills spiked last January. Half the residents had their Llano utility bill double, some triple, and more. City Council initiated a committee to investigate the spike, with Allen Hopson appointed Chair. That committee has been stalled for months waiting for correct information and proper leadership. The committee, a cross-section of citizens with varied knowledge and honorable intent, has dwindled because of this lack of leadership. Preliminary analysis indicates th ...
Dear Editor, How the City of Llano spends the money we pay into it sometimes looks quite unclear. Here are two city expenses that don’t look clear, but affect my small neighborhood: (1) Council approved an agenda item to spend $58,000 to clear an alley. Before the vote, Councilman Todd Keller stated that was more money than the surrounding land is worth.
Dear Editor, Despite what you have heard or may think, your Llano Hospital is open for business. Open for hospital admissions (for pneumonia, chest pain, infections, dehydration, etc.) just like we have always been. Open for colonoscopy (lower scopes). Open for EGD (upper scopes). Open for CT scans. Open for ultrasound.
Dear Editor, I read a City Councilman’s letter to the editor last week insinuating that he alone had come up with a contraption to separate sand and aggregate in the river, and wanting to pay tax dollars for a study on this elaborate unit. My question is - since we have finally found a contractor to pay the city $100,000 plus a year, and sales tax revenue for our river sand, why in the world would we pay tax dollars for something that would take away from that yearly income? God knows we coul ...
Dear Editor, Last Saturday, October 10, our family buried our dear brother, Thomas Fain. Sometime between 4:00 pm and church on Sunday, someone viciously cut all the fresh flowers from the casket spray and the flower sprays from our family and friends. When our family went to view the beautiful tributes, there was nothing but greenery.
Dear Editor,  A year ago when the Riley Mountain well was being discussed I said I didn’t want to spend a dime on a second water source without first taking advantage of every drop of water we already have in our lakes. At our last City Council session I proposed the idea of a sand point, consisting of a wide diameter stainless steel mesh cylinder crossing the granite river bed at or near the dam.
Dear Editor,  On Oct. 3 I was inducted into the LHS Hall of Fame.  When I first received the invitation I thought it was going to be an «empty room» ceremony.  I was shocked at the turn out for this event.  The room was packed.  I had the opportunity to see people that I had not seen in over 30 yrs.  It was very special indeed.  I am sure that most people in Llano do not appreciate what they have.  When I graduated from high school I did not want t ...
Dear Editor: I am writing this on behalf of Councilman Conner. I feel this situation should have first been talked about between the mayor, Mr. Conner and Mr. Ratliff. I honestly feel even though it probably was a joke in poor taste, it has been taken wrong. Since I have found there is a lot of Mr.
