Daughters of the Republic of Texas private property rights tossed aside by State
On August 24, 2015, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) obtained a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the Texas General Land Office (GLO) as well as George P. Bush (son of Jeb Bush) in his capacity as Commissioner of the GLO. This action followed a morning where employees of the DRT Library arrived at work to find the locks changed, their computer hacked, and access to the DRT Library and the library collection they own blocked. In its motion seeking the TRO, the DRT notes that ...
In last week’s editorial, we considered the latest drought predictions by climate scientists that the next 30 years going forward will bring more drought, reduced rain fall, and hotter weather to Central Texas. How will this effect electricity supply and rates for Llano, and all Texans? To set the context, ERCOT (the Texas grid operator) experienced an all-time record peak load during the afternoon of August 10, which drove reserve margin toward a worrisome 4 percent.
Llano Texas is as vulnerable as any Texas town to drought. The people of Llano are understandably sensitive to drought, because of their proximity to the Llano River and their experiences from the 1950’s drought. As a member of the Central Texas Water Coalition’s research team, I’m fulfilling an obligation to pass on at least some relevant information, as CTWC attempts to keep abreast of current climatology issues. For example, we learned 14 months ago from our State Climatologist, Dr.
Dear Editor, We would like to express our appreciation to Chief Kevin Ratliff, Officer Lisa Sloan, and all of the Llano Police Department for the exemplary work they did in investigating and solving the burglary of our home. In less than two weeks, the suspects were arrested and some of our property was recovered.
Dear Editor, I believe there are two types of people in the world: those who deal in opinion, and those who deal in fact. And that's a belief of mine, not an opinion. Kind of like we believe God exists, we don't just have an opinion on it. So it's a fact that if you drive over to the intersection of Hwy 16 and Hwy 29 you'll see a billboard with an offer to drill wells in granite for $12.50 a foot. It's also a fact that the ex-Mayor's million dollar City well project, about a thousand foot hole ...
Advisory Boards are critical to any long-term success and efficiencies. Ad hoc committees are equally necessary, being short-term, single issue-specific and having a projectable finite life which is a function of the prescribed task. Advisory Boards – I would strongly encourage you to Google/Wikipedia such for a better understanding. Also Google “advisory boards” with respect to Texas cities/municipalities.
Dear Editor, The major consideration as to whether to trim expenses in the county’s JP courts is their case load – at least it is according to the Texas Judicial Branch that reports on this stuff. However, none of the JPs want to talk about it.  So I will. According to the Texas Judicial Branch’s “Annual Statistical Report for the Texas Judiciary Fiscal Year 2014,” there are 817 Justice of the Peace Courts in the State of Texas.  There are four in Llano County.
Dear Editor, What if . . . Some questions to consider as the media circus gets under way for the 2016 presidential election: What if Americans have no say in who becomes the presidential candidate for each major party? What if both political parties are controlled by a secret cabal of international bankers and war profiteers? What if this secret cabal controls the voting machines and counts the votes in secrecy? What if the election outcome is decided long before election time? What if thi ...
Dear Editor, The devil is winning! Be sober and be vigilant for your adversary the devil roams about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Have you noticed the acceleration of evil? Biblical values are falling aside daily. The efforts to destroy God’s handiwork are moving faster and faster. The Lord reminded me that upon His death on the cross Satan rejoiced.
Dear Editor, The City of Llano proclaimed July 26 as Americans With Disabilities Act Awareness Day in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the ADA, the Americans With Disabilities Act. Two Texans, President George H.W. Bush and Justin Dart, were the leaders in creating the ADA and making it the law of the land.
