Nearly half a million acres of the Texas Panhandle burned. Homes, barns and fences burned. Some lost livestock. Others lost their lives. Now that the fires are out, farmers, ranchers and landowners are working to rebuild. But they need help. “Some people lost everything,” Shannon Worrell, Mason County Farm Bureau president, said.
God has put on a great show this spring. The bluebonnets and other wild flowers are gorgeous. One of the prettiest drives I have been on is between Llano and Mason. I know I have not been on all area roads, but this is a pretty one. Enjoy. Lenten Lunches continue.

Mason, Texas- The Mason County Chamber of Commerce invites everyone in the Central Texas area and beyond to Discover Mason the first weekend in April. Mason, long known as the Gem of the Hill Country and the only County in Texas where naturally occurring Topaz is found, is located near Fredericksburg.
Mason, Texas- The Second Annual Mason Chamber Music Festival will take place the first weekend in April and is sure to be the gem of the weekends festivities in Mason, Texas. The theme of the weekend of performances by The Austin Symphony’s Artisan String Quartet is Mostly Mozart and will include a Friday performance, the Saturday Gala performance at Mason’s Historic Odeon Theater and a Sunday performance. Let’s celebrate our Texas heritage! Come see “Legends of the Lone Star State!” to be performed by the Bright Star Touring Theatre at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library, 410 Post Hill Street, on March 28th at 6:30 p.m. These professional actors bring to life legends, stories, music, humor, and heroes from Texas.
On March 31, April 1, 3, and 4, 2017 the Friends of the Library will hold their Annual Book and Bake Sale. Members of the Friends of the Library can browse and buy from 2:00 to 6:00 on Friday, March 31. On Saturday from 9:00 – 4:00 everyone is invited to come and purchase gently used books, movies and CDs as well as some delicious homemade baked goods.
The 28th Heart of Texas Country Music Festival will run from March 17-25, in Brady, Texas. The event will feature thirteen shows and dances plus the Darrell McCall and Friends Golf Tournament. The Mason County Historical Commission is planning its annual historical symposium for April 23rd and are in need of some photos and items for our displays. On April 6, 2017, Americans will observe the 100th anniversary of America’s entry into WWI. In observance of the upcoming centennial, the Texas Historical Commission (THC) is collaborating with the” Texas World War I Centennial Commemoration” to honor the role of Texas and Texans in the Great War.
