Mason, Texas-Care-A-Vanner volunteers from across the country begin arriving in Mason this week to start work next week on Mason County Habitat’s eighteenth home. This year more than 30 Care-A-Vanners are expected to come to Mason from other Texas cities and from California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, and South Dakota. Arnold Art Gallery is proud to announce a special photography exhibit, A Closer Look, featuring works by area photographers Suzanne Demaree, Dana McGuire, and Amy Zesch. The works of these talented artists encourage the viewer to slow down and really see what is often passed by. The SPCA of Texas honored Demaree, a professional photographer, with The Susan Darsey Humanitarian Award for her dedication in helping find animals homes through her sensitive photographs.

In support of the community of Mason, Second Chance Mason Animal Rescue is holding a raffle for a free cat spay or neuter each week for the month of February. Fishers of all sorts will be flocking to the James River Crossing on Highway 2389 Saturday, February 2nd in hopes of catching a rainbow. One thousand Rainbow trout will be released as part of Mason County WinterFisch, a partnership with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD). The first release of 1500 fish occurred on December 8th and has been attracting many local and visiting anglers ad providing loads of outdoor fun.
The Mason Community Foundation wants to invite the many volunteers in our County who give of themselves and their time to provide the basis for all of the valuable activities and projects around town. Because volunteering is so much of our life in Mason we often do not appreciate just how important this area of our life together is.
Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” who absolutely insist on enjoying life to the fullest, got more than they bargained for on January’s journey to Brady. Four women who still had enough pennies in their pockets to eat out after the deluge of spending that engulfs Christmas, met at the Methodist Church parking lot and attempted, for the second time in three months, to eat at Joe’s Italian Grill.

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library offers two traditional handcraft classes: Beginning Continental-style Knitting and Embroidery. The classes are free and may be joined at any time. Jutta Dreyer teaches the knitting class, which meets at 6:00 P.M. on Mondays. For this class, please bring one skein of medium-weight yarn and one set of size 8 circular needles.
The construction of the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library’s Camp Discovery project is officially launched! Library Board member J. D. Kidwell is directing the project and estimates that it will be open by May. J.
