Welcome to the reappraisal season!
We have started our field work in the northern parts of the county as we have described in 2019-2020 reappraisal plan. Western Valuation field appraisers will be in the field preforming property inspections. We anticipated this work to begin last November, however due to the heavy rain fall our time frame adjusted for road conditions.
January 31, 2019 Collections deadline to pay 2018 taxes before they become delinquent.
There will be a free rabies clinic on Saturday, January 19, at the Ft. Mason Park Community Building. It will begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until noon (or until we run out of vaccine).
The Rabies Clinic is sponsored by Ole Yellow Rescue and Permian Frac Sand . Each year we have given out free vaccine starting in 2012.
The Association will hold its annual meeting on January 17, 2019. The meeting will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall at 5:30 pm. It is crucial that all concerned landowners and citizens of Mason County attend. We will elect officers and directors. All attending will determine the amount set for dues and bounties for 2019.
The Fredericksburg Rockhounds will host their 50th annual Hill County Gem and Mineral Show on Saturday, January 19th (from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and Sunday, January 20th (from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) at the Pioneer Pavilion in Lady Bird Johnson Park in Fredericksburg, Texas. The park is located three miles south of town on Highway 16 South, next to the Fredericksburg Airport.

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library is offering two computer classes this winter and spring. If enough people are interested, Carol Tucker will teach a Microsoft Word class and a Microsoft Excel class. If interested, please call Carol at 281-788-5145. Micah Walker, Mason County AgriLife Extension Agent for Ag and Natural Resources has announced the dates for entries to the Hill Country Commercial Heifer Show and Sale as Saturday, April 13, 2019. The show and sale will be held in October.
Entry forms are available at the Mason County AgriLife Extension Office at 505 Moody St.
January feels like the calm after the storm. Our lazy days are back. I have almost put all the Christmas decorations away. Then, we can relax and wrap in a blanket and enjoy the calm.
Class Meetings resume this week at the Art United Methodist Church on Wednesday evenings. Soup is served at 6 and the meeting begins at 6:30.

The City of Mason will be holding a City Election, Saturday, May 4, 2019. City positions up for election this year are: City Commissioner District 2 and City Commissioner District 4. Residents of the City of Mason who desire to place their name on the ballot for one of these positions may do so beginning Wednesday January 16, 2019 until Friday February 15, 2019.
The weather forecast says rain this Friday. But in case that changes, consider this your personal invitation.
The Mason Star Gazers are planning to meet this Friday at 6pm at the Eckert Civic Center, located at 1024 McKinley St., for a public star party.
