Over 100 participants gathered on the corner of Rainey and Ave F, known as the band practice field, to initiate the 2018 Walk Across Texas campaign for Mason County citizens! It was truly a colorful afternoon as 100 pounds of colored powder was tossed at participants as they jogged or walked through the color stations along the .5 mile path.
The Mason tennis team traveled to Austin last weekend to compete in the 3A & Under State Team Tennis Tournament. Sixteen teams earned a spot in the state tournament by either winning or placing second in one of the eight regional tournaments held the weekend before. Mason earned the top seed while Wall, Brock and Ingram earned seeds 2-4.
KERRVILLE, Texas (March 7, 2018) - Schreiner University has named qualified students to its President’s and Dean’s List. To be eligible for the President’s List, full-time students must earn at least a 4.0 grade point average for the term, passing all classes, and have at least 12 hours credit for the term.
With the Putman Observatory as a background, the sun was setting fast, the wind was blowing when Ken Kettner, President of the International Dark Sky Association made a loan of his unihedron dark sky meter to Bridget Langdale of Mason, Texas. Bridget will be working with the Pioneers on monitoring the sky in the City of Mason and also certain areas of Mason County.
The day of St. Patrick is coming, that blessed day when those not of Irish descent get to enjoy for a day the bounteous blessings of those of us who are. ‘Tis the day of the wearing of the Green, green beer, and plenty of blarney. Regarding blarney, Jan and I have dressed up Miss Piggy and her two piglets, Roly and Poly, in full Irish regalia.
Comments Re: "Commissioner's Comments" by Sue Pledger (March 7). I find Commissioner Pledger's article to be deceptive and disappointing. Ms. Pledger used her position on the city council to misinform the electorate concerning her activities. For instance, she wants us to believe Mason shouldn't apply to FEMA for grant money because the mayor of West was still doing paperwork related to the FEMA relief that town received.
The Mason 7th & 8th grade girls track teams competed well in the Brady Relays on Thursday, March 8, 2018. Both teams took first place overall in their divisions. Hill Country Memorial recently earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® Disease-Specific Care Certification for joint replacement. To achieve the certification, the hospital’s joint replacement program, called “Restore,” underwent a rigorous on-site review in December. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with national care standards and with requirements specific to joint replacement surgery.
The Mason Lions Club met March 6th for a regular meeting. There were 33 members and 4 visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were 2 Mason High School seniors: Jill Donop, and Kade Willimack. Lion Chad Schmidt was responsible for the program and introduced Tim White, a local resident and contractor associated with Mason Greenstar who spoke about their Blox building systems and the benefits of Blox contruction vs.
The weather is much as every March, with breezy days and temperatures that swing from cool to hot with each change in the wind. With Spring Break for the schools this week there are a different variety of activities that many in our community are involved with, but the City continues on track with several important tasks.
