The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on March 26, 2018 at the School Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm with members Tommy Bierschwale, Jim Bob Smith, Julio Ramon, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Treg Hudson and Kathryn Martin in attendance.
TRTA’s state convention was held at LaCantera in San Antonio April 8 – 10. Those attending from the local Menard/Kimble/Mason unit were local unit president, Mary Ann Bartlett, and local unit 1st vice-president, Sherry Hubbard from Junction; and local unit secretary, Ron Wood from Menard. The three attendees received training in their respective elected positions, as well as heard speakers regarding the state of the TX Retired Teachers’ pension fund, foundation, and health care.
The Mason Lions Club met on April 10 with an attendance of 31 members, two guests and our speaker. Lion Ted Smith introduced Mason County Appraisal District’s new Chief Appraiser, Liza Trevino. Lisa will assume command on May 1. Lion Michael Cope introduced his guest, Don Schumacher, who expressed his intentions of joining the Lions Club. “Boss” Lion Jim Heidelberg declared the Lions’ recent hamburger cook a big success.
More than $700 million over the past 10 years BRYAN, Texas – Last month, Capital Farm Credit returned $77.5 million cash to its members in the form of patronage dividends. In addition, we’re setting aside $86.3 million in Allocated Equities for future distribution to our members, for a total 2018 patronage declaration of $163.8 million. “As a borrower-owned cooperative, our members are also our owners,” said Ben Novosad, chief executive officer.
Justyn Lee Tedder of Mason, TX has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). “NSCS is more than just a symbol of academic achievement. Membership gives students access to a number of amazing benefits including career and networking resources, scholarships, travel, and service projects both on campus and in the community,” says Stephen E.
On Wednesday, April 4th Mason hosted the 27AA Varsity and Junior Varsity tennis tournament at the Helen Tallent Tennis Courts. The Mason High School tennis team had an outstanding showing at the district tournament winning first and second in every division in the varsity tournament and first place in every division in the junior varsity tournament.
The Mason Lions Club met April 3rd for their quarterly business meeting. There were 31 members and 3 visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were 2 Mason High School seniors: Julie Mae Drazan and Araceli Olvera. President Jim Heidelberg mentioned that the club will hold a noontime hamburger cook on the courthouse square this Friday, April 6th.
Congratulations to The Judge’s Bench for walking the most miles in the Walk Across Texas campaign during week 4! The Judge’s Bench logged a total of 237.46 miles this past week and will hold bragging rights to the Golden Shoe Trophy! The Judge’s Bench team members include Judge Jerry and Dreu Bearden, Mark and Chel Terrell, Dean and Rebecca Burns, and BC and Sheree Hardin.
Many residents of Mason have noticed the new construction occurring on the east side of town and a few have inquired about the status of the development and asked questions about the general requirements of qualifying for an apartment home. We thought now would be a great time to provide some updates and ensure that correct information was being disseminated. The construction is still on track to be completed by early to mid-summer.
Back when many of us “children of the 60’s” were burning our bras, a favorite slogan among the newly-liberated was “well-behaved women rarely make history.” On that note, Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” who absolutely insist on enjoying life to the fullest, are planning to “go wild” for our April get-together, on Monday, April 9th.
