Fredericksburg, Texas is excited to announce the 2017 Crawfish Festival. The Crawfish Festival, a celebration of all things Cajun, is a three day festival held on Memorial Day weekend, May 26 – 28, 2017. Located in the beautiful Marktplatz (100 block of W. Main) in downtown Fredericksburg, Texas, the Crawfish Festival is a unique showcase of food, arts and crafts, inflatables, hamster balls, music, and CRAWFISH!
The Doss School kids had a blast Friday May 12, to round out their school year. They got to go on a hayride on the Welge Ranch to the picturesque Threadgill Creek where they built sandcastles in the sand and splashed in the water while catching minnows and frogs. Family and Doss School staff enjoyed a hot dog lunch, together.
The Heart of Texas Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) met for the installation of officers and end-of-the-fiscal-year meeting on May 8 at their Meeting Room on the west side of the Court House Square. Installed to serve during the next two-year term (pictured left to right) were: Cynthia Quinn, President; Cynthia Sutton, Vice-President; Sheila Van Zant, Secretary; Linda Davis, Treasurer; Judy Hanks, Historian; Jerry Wilkinson, Registrar; and Colleen Laman, Chaplain.
Angelica Ramirez & Shay Baker represented Mason High School at the State Track Meet at the University of Texas this past weekend. Shay Baker competed in the Triple Jump and finished 9th with a jump of 34’ 1”.
Angelica Ramirez, competing in her third State Track Meet, pulled away from the pack in the final 300 meters to win the State Championship in the 800 meters, setting a school record with a time of 2:16.38.
The Mason Senior Center and the Nutrition program have been significant within in our community for over forty years. One of the current clients at the center was at one time a Center Director. We all know her as “Weasie” Lange. She believes it was around 1975 when the program began.
The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, May 9th, for it’s weekly luncheon meeting. There were 32 members and 2 visitors in attendance.

This week is National Police Week, and Monday was Police Officer’s Memorial Day, which honors and remembers police officers who gave their lives while on duty. As you may know, the past couple of years have been very dangerous for officers. This week is especially significant for Craig and me because our son is a patrol officer in his fifteenth year of service.

Z and I will be heading to Oklahoma this week to see Lady Bug graduate from High School. Seems only yesterday she was a little bitty girl. Seeing as she’s my only granddaughter, I had a vision of dresses, dolls and girlie things. However, she just wanted to be like her boy cousins and play with Tonka Trucks and wear jeans!
The first solo visit here in Mason, I got cookie dough and envisioned a Norman Rockwell moment of us in the kitchen baking cookies.
Countdown to Greatness...
Folks given to dreaming some 500 years ago could never have imagined the many dozens of major historical occurrences linked to Galveston Island from then until now. Keep in mind that many historians believe the island was discovered in 1519, so it’s time to begin planning celebrations for the coastal playground with the 500th anniversary at hand.
A major milestone in September, 2018, will be a welcome prelude to the celebration.
