The City of Mason has several departments and runs all of the utilities for our residents, and there are issues beyond the landfill that many of us have been talking about recently. The other area where we have a major project underway is the water system and our treatment project to reduce the radionuclides in our water.

On Sunday, May 19th, Mason County Historical Commission members placed a Mason County Memorial Marker on Old Pontotoc Rd. near Brockman Lane (on the right-of-way five and a half miles east of Mason) to identify the graves of two early citizens of the county, Elias and James Shoonover (or Schnoover).

“Sen. Lois Kolkhorst offered a compromise conference committee report on SB 421, her eminent domain reform bill, with the issues that were agreed to over months of negotiations in both the House and Senate.
At their regular meeting on Monday, the Mason County Commissioners' Court tackled a long agenda of items; but, were still able to finish all their business before 11:30 a.m.
After months of looking at the options for the Senior Nutrition Program, Judge Jerry Bearden and program director, Tai Weber, announced that talks had concluded with Nacho's Cafe and Willow Creek Cafe to start producing locally cooked meals, effective August 5.

On June 4 the Mason Lions Club met in general session at Nachos presided over by Boss Lion Marty Bentson. Guests included Morgan Martin, area director of Mason Young Life, her husband Thain Martin, and her son Samuel, one month old.
Other guests included Doris Courtwright, wife of Lion Elliott, Lion Ron Freytag, Landyn Smith, daughter of Lion Chase Smith, and Riley Lane, daughter of our cheerful and efficient attendant, Samantha Whyte.
Presently there is an issue that will be discussed at the next City Council meeting on Monday concerning trash collection and disposal and questioning whether we should spend the needed money to build a new landfill in Mason. As I have been questioned about this issue and have heard comments that have been made, I am very aware that there is a good deal of inaccurate and misleading information circulating.
To the citizens of Mason and Mason County,
I would like to invite you to our regular monthly meeting this month and every month, particularly this meeting to show up and voice your opinion about the proposed aspect of transporting our trash. This will have an effect on all of us.
