The Bauers of Mason County celebrated their fiftieth reunion June 2, 2019. In the summer of 1969 the first cousins of the Melchior Bauer family decided to reestablish their ties and began having reunions once a year. These were the children of Jacob and John T Bauer.
The two families had lived near each other with children attending the Bauerville School and their families the Hoersterville Methodist Church across the Llano River from their homes.

Arnold Art Gallery’s annual Regional Reflections exhibit has expanded to include the works of accomplished poets, from the Mason area and beyond, who were asked to respond to a painting or drawing in the tradition of an ekphrastic poem.
I have been asked a number of questions about my May 22nd article on options for landfills for our hometown. Once Mason’s current landfill is full, we no longer qualify for the same type of landfill we currently operate per state regulations. It appears we have 2 basic choices for our future landfill.
First let me say there will be NO vote on whether or not to go forward with a Type 1 landfill in our June 17th City Commissioners meeting.
The Mason High School UIL Academics Team closed its season last week at the State Speech Meet at the University of Texas. The event capped one of the Academic Team’s most successful seasons in recent years.
Senior Victoria Baltierra highlighted the day by winning the State Championship in Poetry Interpretation. Victoria had previously competed at State in Poetry in 2017.
Riata Service Organization members met at the beautiful home of Kay Evans on May 21. A delicious meal was catered by Mary Scholibo with 31 members in attendance. The new Riata officers were announced & installed.
Riata’s next fundraiser this year will be a pie booth at Round Up in July.
A lot of hard work has been going on at the Odeon theater - the old seats are gone and our new, modern seating is scheduled to arrive next week!

The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on May 21, 2019 at the MISD Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm with members Jim Bob Smith, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Ryan Jordan, and Kathryn Martin in attendance. The invocation was brought by Fred Krebs, Pastor of St.
Continuing education after high school can be costly. That’s why Mason County Farm Bureau awarded $2000 in scholarships to local students.
“We offer these scholarships to support our local youth,” Mason County Farm Bureau President, Shannon Worrell said. “Trade school, college and university educations can be expensive. Scholarships are our way to provide assistance.
Mason Paige Garrett recently completed a very rewarding and highly memorable junior year at Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill High School. Exemplifying what defines a student-athlete, she excelled both academically and athletically.
Mason was a member of the undefeated (37-0) Class 3A State Champion Lady Devils basketball team. She scored her 1,000th career point in the 4th game of the year on November 16th.
On May 28 the Mason Lions Club met in general session at Nachos, and President-elect Michael Murphy spoke about the paradigm changes at Texas A & M University, where Lion Dr. Murphy taught for many years, in recent decades.
A&M, originally A&M College was established to help the nation develop the lands on the frontier and to provide education to the rural areas.
After World War II the veterans poured into A&M with a clear vision of what they wanted and where they were going.
