A Most Unusual Day…
The day was picture perfect--A+ in every way. It was the kind prayed for by brides planning garden weddings, and dreamed of by photographers challenged to shoot pictures for world class chamber of commerce brochures.
It may have been the kind of day that inspired the psalmist David--beholding his God and His almighty power--to write the 23rd Psalm more than 3,000 years ago.

Rain makes me smile. I don’t know how much it rained but we are so grateful for the rain.
School is out Friday, May 25th, ending with graduation. The kids are happy. Grandma is wondering what the summer holds in store for us.
Happy Birthday to Gary Donop on May 27th. Happy Anniversary to Emeth and Willie Bauer on May 23rd and William and Lisa Howard on May 28th.
Make yours a good week.
Bee brush blooming.
Gnats in your ear.
And eyes.
And nose.
As we cross over the bridge from Spring to Summer.
Unmistakable here in the Hill Country.
Wildflowers still blooming—wildly.
But things are heating up.
Add to that the wondrous rains we had and— Poof.
Everything reaching, sprouting, growing, doubling, and bursting with longing to be all it can be.
And all that it’s meant to be.
A seed being a wondrous thing.
A seed already containing what it is within its ...
525,600 Minutes - Moments in Time
The Broadway show "Rent" has many great musical numbers. It is a contemporary re-imagining of the opera, "La Boheme," and it follows a group of friends on the lower east side of Manhattan, down in Alphabet City. I was fortunate enough to get to see the original cast in the production shortly before it took home multiple Tony Awards back in 1995.
Near the end of the show, as all the plotlines begin wrapping up and character stories are being resolved, one ...
Kendall
I am betwixt and between with regard to Kendall and his columns, but I think I have a solution. Somewhere along the way Kendall seemed to become a serious columnist. Maybe it was his bible college training, maturity, or things are just that serious in our country.
He now writes well reasoned, well written columns about serious issues in our country.
Trash
Today, my dog asked me a question.
"Say partner, does it seem that more people are throwing their trash out on the streets than they used to?"
My answer to Ringo was, yes it does boy. I think most people are very careful and never do that. Maybe some people are just so busy that they never think about what they are doing.

2 ¼ cups powdered sugar, plus two tablespoons
1 ¼ cups vegetable shortening, plus two tablespoons
2 eggs
2 tablespoons cocoa

The Library Book Club has been meeting for about five years now, but, for me, it’s still a fun experience with good-natured, lively discussions of the books. This month’s selection is One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus, who has just come out with the sequel The Vengeance of Mothers.
The end of honor
When Don Zaidle called me in 2002, I had no idea what to expect. Don was a large, gregarious fellow, with a huge beard and shoulder-length hair, although he was bald as an egg on top. He reminded me of Grizzly Adams. He was also the managing editor of Texas Fish & Game magazine, and he opened the conversation with, “Hemphill, you write that newspaper column that irritates everybody, don’t you?”
I allowed that my column had, on occasion, angered some readers, but sin ...
While strolling through the pasture one day
In the very merry month of May
We were taken by surprise
By a loud rattle noise
While strolling in the pasture one day.
Hey, hey.
Yep.
They’re heeeeeeeeere.
Rattlesnakes.
On the move.
In the shade.
On a rock.
Under a tree.
In the grass.
By the deck.
Over yonder.
Under foot.
Watch your step.
Keep your eyes and ears open.
Scientifically known as Crotalus.
From the Greek, meaning “castanet.”
And Sistrurus ...
