Freedom is a gift, but it is not a gift that keeps on giving, unless you nourish it, freedom will wilt like a neglected house plant. Freedom is great and strong, but unless we take care of our freedom it will slowly begin to die. Think of our freedom as a thorough bred race horse.
Once you ride and get a taste of it, you will not want anything less.
Angel Biscuits

Is there any such thing as having too many biscuit recipes? I didn't think so! This recipe produces one of lightest, flakiest biscuits that you ever slathered gravy on; matter of fact, you may want to hold the biscuits down so that they don't float off your plate.
We had a fabulous week last week. Barbara Ortwein’s book talk was very entertaining, and she’s such a cheerful, friendly person that it was a real pleasure to get to visit with her. We have all three of her historical fiction novels available for checkout. They form a trilogy about a German immigrant family who come to the Texas Hill Country in 1844.
What’s wrong with this country?
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it didn’t fall apart in a day. Societies change over time, values are adjusted, mores shift, and public opinion is swayed by rhetoric offered through news media. America’s ox is in the ditch, but it didn’t fall in there all at once.
A Rotten Day…
“Ya can’t fix stupid.” It’s a line tossed about daily with abandon.
In my case--and this is an admission made “frog-throated” and typed with shaky fingers--I plead guilty.
The sting is even greater when our judgment--in certain moments when efforts are squeezed to save a few bucks--is sorely lacking, maybe totally absent.

Greetings to all from Mason Texas! Never a day goes by that I am not enthralled, educated, or just flabbergasted! That’s right I said flabbergasted! To be struck dumb with astonishment or surprise. I bet you haven’t used that word in a while. Much of my day is spent in the company of some of our communities’ finest, the Senior citizens of Mason County.
Don't Need Much, But, Give Me My Music!
It started when I was just a kid.
When we would go to bed at night, we had a radio at the bedside. KNEL reduced their power output at night; but, XROK in Del Rio turned up the power to their transmitter located over in Acuna, and I could listen to the songs that weren't on Brady's playlist!
Riding in the pickup or car with Mama or Daddy was always a constant fight over station selection.
Not Funny
If the Mason County News wants to continue to run Kendall Hemphill’s column I would strongly suggest that the paper require that he change his title from “outdoor humor columnist” to “political opinion columnist.”
Mr. Hemphill’s column for many years has been less humorous and less about the outdoors and more about politics.
