Smart Voting Gerry, I wanted to take a minute to reflect on what it is in my heart. As I drive through town and look at all the election signs, I start to pray and thank God for the awesome community that I live in. I believe that as a whole, we do get along. I know that there will always be a battle between the two forces of dark and light.
No-Cook Cheesecake This one is quick and so easy it I place it under under the classification of “falling-off-a-log-easy!” The most time used in the making of this delicious cake is while you;re waiting for it to set up in the refrigerator. Ingredients: 1 eight ounce package of cream cheese, softened 1 graham cracker crust I can of condensed milk 1/3rd cup lemon juice 1 teaspoon vanilla Process: Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly to combine Poure mistur ...
Check out our other articles in today’s paper about two special programs next week. German author Barbara Ortwein will be here next Tuesday to give an unusually lively (with music!) book talk about her trilogy set in the hill country, and country songwriter and singer Bernie Nelson will be singing for us Thursday evening.
Truth? Kendal Hemphill Turn on your television, listen to your radio, scroll through any form of social media, and you’ll hear people offering solutions for America’s ‘gun problem.’ Politicians usually say whatever they think people want to hear, and groups with an agenda say what they think their followers want to hear.
Give Smiles a Try… Songs are often slathered in over-simplification. We’ve generally gone along with the musical proclamation that our smiles trigger the rest of the world to smile with us. Wait a minute. The world ignores, remaining ambivalent, whether we’re smiling or not. This is not to say there is not value in smiles; they are worthwhile if they do nothing more than brighten a few lives in our own little world.
Drumsticks with Butternut Squash Spring is here and it makes me want to start planting things I also get hungry for the fresh veggies that are more abundant this time of year. I have started composting and so far I have planted onions, peppers and lettuce. I also have a small herb garden started. I saw this recipe with butternut squash and had to share it.
The Ceynowa household has had a crazy week. I totally forgot last week’s column because hubby John was in the hospital. We are so grateful for our EMS team that came to the house quickly and took John to get help. He had a heart attack on the sixth and we are hoping he will be released from the hospital in the next few days.
Seventy-four million. 74,000,000. That’s a lot. That’s an estimate. Not for how many stars are in the sky. Or much the latest lottery is worth. An estimate. Of pet dogs in this country. Just in this country. And y’all know what dogs do. Each pet poops three-quarters of a pound a day. (Kinda gives “QuarterPounder” a whole new meaning.) That’s an approximate figure. I wonder who had to run that test. Hmmm, let’s see. Watch where you step. Look out f ...
Heroes of Undistinguished Acclaim One of the early business pioneers of Mason was James Ranck. Along with brother-in-law and business partner, William Lockhart, Mr. Ranck helped to develop the tiny settlement growing up around Fort Mason into the town that still bears traces of his work even today. But, Mr. Ranck, like so many Mason residents through the years, had a selfless desire to see his adopted hometown prosper, and sometimes made decisions that did not benefit him in the long term. ...
