Whut?
Being as how I’m an Old Fogey, I don’t try to keep up with social media like the young folks do. I have no idea what the newest craze is these days, whether it’s InstaChat or SnapGram or what. I did try Twitter once, and my impression is that it’s a huge electronic conversation where everyone is talking at once, and no one is listening to anything anyone else is saying.
A Ford in His Past…
“One thing for sure,” a reader mentioned the other day, “most of your columns are centered on your own ‘back when’ memories.” An easy counter is that just as many pieces are written about their “back when” recollections.
Some of the most poignant accounts are from folks 90 or more years of age.
By now you have heard the score for the Cowgirls basketball game on Friday. I am so proud of these girls and coaches. They made history for Mason. We have enjoyed their season leading up to this game. We would have liked a win, but these girls fought the entire game and gave it their all.
Buenos dias, Senorita.
Buenos dias, Senor.
Como esta usted?
Muy bien, gracias. Y usted?
Bien, gracias.

That was the first Spanish we non-Mexican kids learned.
Back in the second grade.
That, and learning to count.
Uno, dos, tres.
Quatro, cinco, seis.
Siete, ocho, nueve, diez.

You can chant it like a song.
Spanish definitely has its own particular rhythm.

I just have to take a moment to tell how much my husband Craig and I (and the rest of the audience) enjoyed Hungrytown last week. Almost all the songs they performed were original, and the couple is delightful! They’re continuing on westward, and I’ve invited them back next year, so if you missed them, you’ll have another chance to be entertained!
Kodak moment
Some men are born to greatness. Others sometimes get to have dinner with it.
Wyman Meinzer and Earl Nottingham sat across the table from me last Friday night at the 60th Annual Texas Outdoor Writers Association conference in League City. Wyman was the keynote speaker for the conference, and is one of the two best photographers in Texas, in my opinion.
Mort’s Migraine Magnified…
Aunt Maude smirks often, corrects gently and forgives daily. Oh, she also looks the other way regularly to avoid getting the “shakes.”
She has attained the same age as my 105-year-old Uncle Mort, and has pretty much figured out how to maintain peace and harmony in their home nestled down in the thicket.
Everything Old Is New Again...
We're a rather short-sighted society, opting to think that any indiscretions, any innovations or any scandals that occur during our time must be more momentous and original than any that have occurred in our history. That is a rather egotistical outlook, and one that fails to recognize the importance and lessons of our own history.
For six months, the headlines have been filled daily with stories of the ongoing investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller ...
