Uncle Mort Ticked Off...    We can all agree that dullness--paarticularly for the “Jacks” of the world--is a predictable result when we’re wallowing in unending “work ruts.” Such scenarios rarely crop up in my Uncle Mort’s life, ‘cause at first “scent” of toil, he “sniffs it out.” Like a shifty football running back, his end runs and careful sidesteps usually work.    Sometimes, such vignettes occur in concession stand line ...
Wave goodbye to summer. It is gone. School has started. We had a few cool days to make us feel that fall might be coming soon. And, football games are on TV and in the Puncher Dome. Welcome to fall, even if the official day is weeks off.    Construction is coming along at the Art United Methodist Church.
Back in the saddle again.    It’s back-to-school time.    You know what that means.    So long, August.    Can’t say we’re sorry to see you go.    Although it’s been memorable.    Hotter than a $2 pistol is what it’s been.    Although the year 1925 holds the record.    And they can have it.    Bring on Autumn.    Let the leaves begin.    Begin to turn and fall. &n ...
City Still Seeking Answers to Conflict of Interest Questions    Monday night's regularly scheduled City Commission meeting continued the effort to clarify and put to rest any conflict of interest questions concerning the use of an engineering firm owned by Mayor Brent Hinckley's son. The meeting began with Mayor Hinckley recusing himself from the discussion and Mayor Pro Tem, William Beaty, taking over the conducting of the proceedings.
[Since 2004, it’s been a tradition to run this column every year before school starts]    Last week Mason County News published the School Supply List for Mason Elementary and Mason Junior High.    You can probably find most of these items at Mason Variety Store or Dollar General.    Anyway, I was so intrigued I just couldn’t put it down.    The list began with Pre-K.    One large box of crayons.
As summer is winding down, the Ceynowa bunch gathered at Lake Buchanan this weekend for fishing, tubing, lounging and eating. We all had a great weekend and celebrated hubby John’s birthday.    The first thing I did when we drove up to our house was to check the rain gauge.
Tamale Loaf    I found this recipe in the San Angelo Standard Times from 1963. It was submitted to the “Angelo Woman’s Concho Cookery Cooking contest”. My mother never threw anything away, especially recipes. (Gee, I wondered where I got that from.)    I hope you enjoy this dish. It is a different “twist” on meat loaf.
Even though you may not see it when you come in the doors, the 2,000-piece Sistine Chapel puzzle is alive and needing work! We have moved it to the north end of the library by the mural wall to create a little more room for foot traffic in front of the circulation desk.
Gold medals and green water    Because I write about outdoor activities, and because most summer Olympic competitions consists of outdoor activities, I decided to attend the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. I figured it would be a nice break from my hectic summer schedule of irritating people I don’t know on Facebook and complaining about Pokemon Go players who drive their cars into buildings.    Unfortunately, Rio de Janeiro is no ...
I’ve been told that when three bad things happen, three good things will happen. Z and I were in Hot Water! That is in the shower. No warm or sort of warm. Only hot water. The wind and rain storm Friday took our land phone out. All day Saturday, no internet service.
