"Toto, We're Not In Pontotoc Anymore!"
We have two granddaughters, sisters, who live in Denver, Colorado. When the eldest had our first great-grandchild she decided to have him baptized in her home congregation in Angleton, Texas. Younger sister and husband would be "Sponsors" (Lutheran for "Godparents").
The thinking was this would be more convenient for family and friends to attend and for me, who had baptized the granddaughter mother, to officiate.

As you’ve probably figured out, I can’t pass up a “new” recipe for biscuits or cornbread. Here’s a cornbread recipe that you most likely have not seen before. You can push around a bunch pinto beans with a piece of this for a long, long time!
Ingredients:
1 pound lean ground beef
1 cup sifted flour
¼ cup sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
¾ teaspoon salt
1 cup corn meal

Vote as You Please (Or Not)…
There was “people-watching” at its best recently when Texans gathered at polling places to exercise their voting preferences in primary elections. Yep, it was a foretaste of the “Big One” in November.
They showed up in attire ranging from the serious sloppy to “after five,” with a few of the latter adorned as if headed to an opera box.
Cajun Shrimp Tacos
I have to apologize first,” I put a recipe in the newspaper a couple of weeks ago and left out the main ingredient!!” It was the “Tamale Loaf”. It should have had 1 pound of ground beef or ground turkey. I am so sorry about that. My mind doesn’t always operate like it should!!
Our world has gone crazy. Another virus, this one from China, is predicted to wipe out America if we don’t live in fear and stop our normal lives. I believe the media is promoting fear. We all know how to take precautions during flu season. Somehow, hoarding toilet paper was not in any of my previous precautionary plans.
We gladly welcome Spring on March 20.
Help Us Celebrate Spring in Mason!
The annual Spring Visitors' Guide will be coming out during the first couple of weeks of April. Though our Fall Hunters' & Visitors' Guide is a larger publication, the spring edition is a vital part of welcoming folks to Mason County and helping them to have the best experience possible.
Several years ago, we held a spring photo contest and had a tremendous response.
Planning for Change
Gerry:
Yesterday, at 95, Rosalind P. Walter died. Although most people don’t recognize her by that name, she became one of the most recognizable and durable symbols of Americans coming together when we need it. With the slogan “We can do it,” she became the World War II poster girl, Rosie the Riveter.
Today, when we are faced with challenges at home and abroad, it is past time for us to put aside our slight differences and come together to address some of the g ...
The Cross Brand
Ranchers have brands. They are used as a means of identification.
When I find a strange bull in one of my pastures, the first thing I look for is a brand. That symbol, burnt into his hide, tells me which of my several neighbors to contact about the wandering animal.
And my neighbors do the same thing when any of our cattle get the notion that "the grass is greener on the other side of the fence."
Grandmother’s Tea Cakes

While I must admit that neither of my grandmothers made these little cakes, my mother certainly did. It makes several dozen, but the rate at which they will disappear from the serving plates will make you glad you had a bunch to share.
Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
1 cup unsalted butter
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ cup buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
3 teaspoons baking powder
5 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
Ground or freshly grated nutme ...
We’ve had all kinds of fun lately! Last week Sofia Talvik gave an outstanding concert! She’s such a sweet person and gifted me with a Paws of a Bear (the name of her latest album) T-shirt for my retirement! We’ve already had two special Spring Break days of Legomania as well as our regular Storytime.
