Mike Arnold moved his family to Blanco from San Antonio eight years ago and fell in love with the charms of the town. He had gone to school in San Antonio, founded a TV news network and was running a youth ministry nationwide but needed a change. “I’m a builder, not a maintainer,” Arnold said.

Twin Sisters Dance Hall will hold its fourth annual “Raise the Roof” fundraiser from 9 a.m. to midnight on Sept. 22, 2018. Funds raised from the event will benefit the continued restoration and preservation of the historic hall. “We started the Raise the Roof fundraiser originally to raise money for a new roof,” Jo Nell Haas, Twin Sisters director said.

After acquiring the New Braunfels Sears store in May, William Aultman began looking at other prospects. Having family nearby in Hayes county and loving the Hill Country, he became interested in the Blanco Sears store, which he recently bought. “I love the area,” Aultman said. “It’s beautiful out here. Progress continues for the Community Resource Center (CRC) to be housed in the former Super S Grocery building off U.S. Hwy. 281 in Johnson City, as the project is now accepting bids for construction. The reconstruction project at the site is estimated to cost $1.4 million, funding is provided by partnership and management fees received the Texas Housing Foundation. Along with construction bids being taken, an advisory committee has been formed as well.
Blanco County Judge Brett Bray advised that even though the county is still in severe drought conditions, with potential for wildfires, the Commissioners Court, along with the fire departments in the County, want to work with the public to accomplish necessary burning while conditions are more favorable.
