The Emergency Services District No. 2 broke ground for the construction of its new building Monday, July 2, 2018. The building, located at the corner of Blanco Ave. and Jones Rd., will be nearly 15,000 sq. ft. when complete, with seven drive-through bays that will house both Blanco County EMS and Blanco Volunteer Fire Department.
Early Fall Construction Scheduled
The Texas Department of Transportation recently awarded the city of Blanco an $895,781 project as part of its Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) for population areas with less than 200,000 residents. The grant, which requires city funding of $200,000, has been in the works since 2000, when the first “Wheels and Feet Task Force” was formed. After initial meetings, it was determined there was a lack of sidewalks for students who walk to school in Blanco.

The 2018 Johnson City Antique Tractor Pull was held Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Blanco County Fairgrounds. Antique Oliver, John Deere, Allis Chalmers and International Harvester tractors of all sizes, models and ages lined up for the competition. The large equipment and smaller lawn tractors were part of the tractor pull. Venders provided food and cooling drinks to relieve the heat.
“Judgement” is a short Western film directed by Bentley Mitchum, grandson of the well-known American actor Robert Mitchum. Mitchum hosted an acting workshop at the Buggy Barn Museum. Mitchum and his fiancee, Alannah Rae, wanted to figure out a way to help the actors around the area, which is why they decided to hold the Bentley Mitchum Acting Workshop, and film a Western in two days. The workshop took place June 9-11, 2017.

Stonewall and area residents were in for loads of fun and treats at the 57th annual Peach Jamboree was held Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16 at the rodeo grounds in Stonewall. Friday night’s rodeo included the first heat of Mutton Bustin’. The CPRA Rodeo by DVS Productions performed at 8 p.m., with local entries of Calf Scramble and the second heat of Mutton Bustin’ at intermission. The June 12, 2018 meeting of the Blanco City Council was called to order at 6 p.m. by Mayor Herndon. The Mayor welcomed new City Secretary Wendy Patterson, who lives in Bulverde, who is also performing the duties of the city finance director. Construction is underway at Arnosky’s Blue Barn Market to add a pavilion to the barn for additional event space. Construction on separate bathrooms behind the pavilion is slated to begin next. The pavilion project is the first phase of construction at the farm, and was funded by two donors who share Pamela Arnosky’s vision that farms are an important part of communities. “We are building the team to take us into the next generation,” Arnosky said.
