A $25,000 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Pedernales Electric Cooperative will help restore two interior staircases at the historic Old Blanco County Courthouse.
The original staircases are more than 130 years old, have unstable handrails and are not at the height required by modern codes. The west stairs have been closed for nearly two years due to safety concerns.
More than 50 representatives of local governments, service and non-profit organizations gathered Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Methodist Church in Johnson City to learn about a new community resource center coming in early 2019 to Blanco County.
The meeting was hosted by the sponsors of the project, Community Resource Centers of Texas, Inc.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) gave a presentation on June 5 in Llano on its plans for the next few years in the Hill Country.
Cathy Kratz, P.E., TxDOT area engineer and Michael Dutton, TxDOT, were at a sparsely attended meeting at the Llano Library to receive comments on the Rural Transportation Program for fiscal years 2019-2022 for Blanco, Gillespie, Lee, Llano and Mason counties.
After the meeting, Kratz confirmed that TxDOT is actively seeking funding to widen U.S.
Blanco’s population is estimated to swell tenfold this weekend as the chamber of commerce plays host to the 13th annual Lavender Festival. The three-day event will take place Friday through Sunday in the Old Courthouse Square.
“The festival has become a premier event in the Hill Country,” festival organizer Libbey Aly, Blanco Chamber of Commerce executive director said.

As of July 1, 2018 Blanco County Recycling will be forced to discontinue taking numbered 3 to 7 plastic containers and all other large plastic items illegally dumped at the Blanco County Recycling Center.
“As of July 1, 2018, the recycle center will discontinue takin gin all plastics with a 3 to 7 rating,” Blanco County Commissioner, Precinct 4, Paul Granberg said.
The City of Blanco Public Water System has implemented Stage 1 water restrictions effective June 4, 2018, according to Ronnie Rodriguez, City of Blanco Public Works Director. The City of Blanco is currently purchasing treated water from Canyon Lake Water Service Company, which initiated drought rationing June 1.

RED (Riding Equines for the Disabled) Arena held its 8th annual fundraiser June 2, 2018 at the Dripping Springs Ranch Park.

Klepac Greenhouses will host their annual Jim Newman Memorial Mother’s Day plant sale from 9 am. To 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12.
Jim Newman worked for the greenhouses for ten years as their production manager before his life was cut short by cancer. The first fundraiser, which was was held close to Mother’s Day, was to help the family with medical expenses.
