Blanco county residents young and old enjoy the fun, games and picnic food at the Franklin family ranch. The Franklin family hosted its 16th annual Easter egg hunt Saturday, March 24, 2018.
The 2018 Blanco Lavender Festival steering committee has selected this year’s official festival art piece, a watercolor by Austin artist Helen Faythe Green. The official festival art piece is featured on volunteer t-shirts, posters, and t-shirts for sale at the event, as well as in publicity for the festival. “I’ve never been to Blanco, but I have a really good friend in Kerrville who encouraged me to enter a painting for the Lavender Festival,” Green said.
More than 40 people gathered at the Old Blanco Courthouse Saturday, March 24, 2018, in support of the students who organized the March for Lives, held in Washington, D.C. and across the U.S. and world. The march was organized by the Blanco County Liberal Ladies to advocate for the end of gun violence in schools.
As part of its community outreach and support programs, The Fire Department is in the process of surveying Blanco businesses and conducting pre-planning inspections. Lt. Chris Leach, BVFD, is leading the project that the fire department started the project eight months ago. “Business owners can request the inspection by calling the fire station or we contact businesses directly,” he said.
BHS Principal Keitha St. Clair reported that students arrived back from spring break this week to find all of their lockers covered with positive sticky notes. Blanco County Commissioners held court on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, and approved several items that have been ongoing discussed over several meetings. Opioid Crisis Judge Bray did not want to divide the court on a matter discussed in previous meetings that received mixed opinions from commissioners. The evergreen shrub known as the Agarita is in full bloom. The fragrance of the tiny lemon-yellow blooms fills the air in late winter heralding the coming of spring. For many new to the Texas Hill country, these bushes that can grow to 6 feet in height, may seem to be thorny underbrush to be cleared by ranches and homeowners. The flowers bring forth bright red berries that can be eaten raw or cooked.

City Council met March 13, 2018, to address a full agenda of action items Mayor Herden welcomed city engineer Jason Jones, who reported that the Phase 2 FEMA repairs on Peabody dam should be completed in another week, at which time work will begin on the Wayne Smith dam, with a completion time of that project in three to four weeks.
