Chances are you know a young person who could make good use of a scholarship! The Hill Country Cattle Women work diligently each year to raise funds to award to scholarship recipients. These are awarded to students who attend a Texas college or university, and are at the Junior or Senior level.
LBJ High School is hosting a coffee for area businesses who may be interested in hiring a student intern through the campuses’ new Work-Based Learning Program this fall. Jay Boy Adams and Zenobia with Mister Sister return to the Odeon theater in Mason Saturday January 23 for an encore performance. Showtime is 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:30. Texas legend Jay Boy Adams is a Top-Five Americana Chart artist who has toured with ZZ Top, the Allman Brothers Band, Joe Cocker and Stephen Stills.
Mason ShortStop and NuWay Grocery has contacted the News and indicated that they want to continue the tradition of a contest for residents who go to the trouble of decorating their homes for the Christmas holiday. The two stores, owned by Charlie and Linda Reichenau, have offered a $300 prize for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place.

November is National Picture Book Month, and if you have little ones, you'll find a great selection of both fiction and non-fiction books in the Kid Zone of the library. Picture books are often a child's first experience in finding pleasure in stories and stimulates a desire to read words.
Twenty six Riata members met at the Stribling Room on Oct 27. Hostesses were Laura Tallent and Julie Gamel. Laura Tallent introduced the guest speaker, Mary Alice Rodriquez who demonstrated the art of decorating cookies for special occasions. Members sampled her beautiful and delicious cookies. Susan Cole was welcomed as a new member.
Veterans Day is November the 11th. The Mason veterans will have a ceremony to honor those that have served our country at 11:30 a.m. at the veterans memorial. We invite everyone to attend to support our veterans. At 9 a.m. on the 11th, the veterans will meet with the students in the high school.
It's been a very busy month! The Board of Directors and I have been working very hard on our largest fundraiser of the year, Wild Game Dinner. Proceeds from this event help maintain Chamber office expenses and promote tourism to Mason.
