July 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the first earthlings to set foot on the moon. The occasion has brought to mind some fond memories:
In 1952, after viewing a black and white science fiction movie about the first men to the moon, I asked my oldest brother if he thought man would really ever be able to go to the moon.
These human beings were released from a Nazi concentration camp in 1945 at the end of world war 2. Millions of Jewish humans were placed in camps because of Hitler’s continual racist rants against them and by blaming them for Germany’s economic problems and the lack of jobs for “REAL” German citizens.
I read with horror of the conditions at the Border Patrol detention center in Clint, Texas. Children without beds, going hungry and unable to even wash their hands. Border Patrol agents report that children as young as 5 months are detained here, with no adult to care for them. How did these children come to be in such a place?
The wait time to cross the border at an official point of entry can be months.
The Blanco County Commissioners Court is not an oligarchy. It is a representative body consisting of agents ‘of the people’ and as such, the commissioners have a duty to carefully consider issues of importance ‘to the people.’ I am writing to inform citizens of Blanco County that your commissioners have remained indifferent to entreaties regarding the proposed Kinder Morgan pipeline route through Blanco County.

I was back in McAllen volunteering at the Humanitarian Respite Center a few weeks ago. My experience gave me hope, even though the situation is dire.

Becky Craven, a leader in a world-wide women’s organization, told the following story:
“We have a dear friend who was a train engineer. One day while he was driving a train on his route, he spotted a car stopped on the track ahead of him. He quickly realized that the car was stuck and unable to cross the track.
"EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE" is the latest sensation on NetFlix, "a chronicle of the crimes of Ted Bundy, from the perspective of his longtime girlfriend, who refused to believe the truth about him for years."
Bundy was a notorious serial killer who confessed to murdering over thirty victims, as well as other horrible crimes; it was his philosophy about morality that allowed him to do these horrible things.
He wrote, ..."I discovered that to become truly free, truly unfett ...
THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is heart disease at 635,260 from data compiled in 2017. The next highest cause of death is cancer at 598,038. Number three: Unintentional injuries caused by accidents at 161,374.
I received an email awhile ago that said this:
“STATISTICS DON'T LIE!
While serving as principal of an alternative school, I was holding a parent conference. In attendance were a tall, athletic student and his mother. Representing the school, besides myself, was a counselor, an assistant principal and a former Marine drill sergeant who served as one of the boy’s teachers. In the course of the meeting the boy swore at his mother.
