Perhaps you’ve seen the show, the Fear Factor. Well, this is not it. It is just the opposite, in fact. Did you know that almost every time an angel appears to a human, the first words out of their mouth is, “Fear not?” That’s because seeing an angel is, to be honest, quite a fearful thing.
The 20th annual Christmas Stroll is set for Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 5:30 pm. There is no greater way to kick off the Christmas season than to spend it as a community singing songs and hearing the Christmas story. This year’s stroll will begin at the Courthouse gazebo with the Church of God of Prophecy.
Rev. It is held annually on or near the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, who was known for his love of animals.
In the 1840s many people left Germany to find freedom in the United States. Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Llano has recently initiated the Gabriel Project, which is a program designed to support families experiencing a crisis situation due to an unplanned pregnancy. The Gabriel Project provides emotional support offered in a loving, non-judgmental manner. The people offering assistance, called “Gabriel Angels” have attended training classes which include information on responsible mentoring and where to find resources which are available in the region.
Attention all ladies! All ladies are invited to join an in-depth Bible study on the Gospel of John. The 12-week study begins Sept. 14 and ends Dec. 7. The group will meet each Wednesday from 9:15-11 a.m. at the Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church, which is located at 800 Wright Street in Llano. Childcare is provided at no cost for infants and preschool age children.
The St. John Lutheran Community Association of Crabapple, Texas (Gillespie County) will hold its annual business meeting on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. at the Sunday School Building in Crabapple. Discussion of the annual homecoming worship service planned for Sunday, Sept. 25, will be an agenda item, along with any new business that may come before the meeting.
Rev. Kit Tomlinson has accepted the position of youth pastor at Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church in Llano. He began his duties Aug. 1. Tomlinson served as the pastor of recreational evangelism at University UMC San Antonio for the past eight and one half. His primary ministry has been to the skateboarding community of San Antonio through UISK8. Previous to that appointment, he served in youth ministry in local churches since 1998.
