KERRVILLE, Texas (May 19, 2017) - The May 2017 Commencement Ceremony was Schreiner University’s 34th baccalaureate graduation since conferring its first four-year degrees in 1984. One hundred sixty seven students graduated from Schreiner University and received their diplomas during a recognition ceremony held on campus in the Schreiner Athletic and Event Center.

Nathan is a Disabled Army Veteran, having spent over 7 years in the Army as a Sniper Qualified Infantryman. He is a graduate of the Army Sniper School as well as the U.S. Border Patrol Tactical Units Primary Marksman/Observer Course.

Danny Kamerath is an award winning furniture designer/maker known for his unique chairs crafted from a variety of beautiful woods. His work has been shown in museums across the country and featured in national magazines.
District 7 4H Roundup competition was held in San Angelo on May 16. Four members of the Mason County 4H Club entered the competition including Caroline Lemke, Grace Perlichek, Makenna Palacio and Eliza Cope.
In the Roundup Share-The-Fun Competition which includes Musical, Drama, Vocal, Band, Choreographed Routine and Celebrate 4H, four members from Mason County entered the competition, all in the musical category.
Weekend at the Colonial
Last weekend, Sean Reardon, his son, Aaron and I headed up to Fort Worth. We were guests of Dr. Steve Cole from Aledo and his brother, Michael, from Dallas.
The reason for the weekend getaway was to attend the Colonial Golf Tournament, which had started on Thursday; but, would be finishing up play on Saturday and Sunday.
The MHS Pioneers students have been planning and working on a water conservation project where a Rainwater Harvesting System will be implemented to collect rainwater from the junior high gym for use in irrigating the band practice field. The students have made a presentation to our local Lion’s Club and they also did a community wide presentation on May 24th.
They will be presenting to the Hickory Underground Water District during the summer and the Riata Service Organization in the fall.
On Saturday, May 20th approximately 800 students in grades 4-12 competed in the TCEA STATE Robotics Contest, held at Hutto High School.
Students competed in two different parts of the contest: Arena or Inventions.
Mason Junior High qualified with one team at the Area TCEA Robotics contest. The team participated in Inventions, a more open-ended contest allowing students to present ideas in applied problem-solving.

The City of Mason has called a special meeting of the City Commission for Wednesday, May 31 at 5:30 pm at the Richard Eckert Civic Center. There will be an Executive Session to allow the City Commission to hear a report from a municipal attorney about a specific issue, as well as presentation and acceptance of the annual Audit for the past year.

Terri Hendrix is a woman of wit, wisdom and conviction and she returns to the Odeon theater in Mason with Lloyd Maines Saturday June 17. Showtime is 7:00 pm and admission is $20 per person.
The triple threat singer/songwriter was celebrating 20 years in her recording career when she performed at the Odeon last year.
