Boss Lion Michael Murphy gaveled the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. at Nacho’s Café on lucky Tuesday, August 27. Guests were Don Jungkind and Frank Bartlett. Program Chair was traded by Jess Irwin to Mark Kirby who introduced Coach Michael McLeod. Coach gave the Lions Club an overview of the 2019 Mason Punchers football team. The Wall-Mason game will be played in two days.
If you’re interested in tracing your ancestry, then mark your calendar for next Tuesday’s program by Texas General Land Office research lead researcher Kevin Klaus. Attendees will learn techniques for tracing their ancestors using GLO land grant files, as well as methods for researching German records overseas. The program will cover new material found this year after visiting archives in Wiesbaden, Monchengladbach, and Dusseldorf, Germany.
The past couple of weeks have been busy for most everyone in town. Last week’s football extravaganza may not have ended as we all would have wanted, but the many positive facets of Mason were on display and we can all be proud of our own “best hometown in Texas”.
Arnold Art Gallery’s is proud to host selected works from The State of Hand Stitch, New Embroidery by Texas Artists recently exhibited at the University of Texas at San Antonio. The exhibit is a survey of eleven artists working with thread and needle at a time when embroidery (and textile art in general) is experiencing increased international recognition as a medium of choice for serious artists.
Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” who absolutely insist on living life to the fullest, partied down in August at the home of Brenda Koepke. A robust crowd of 12 filled her living room and dining room, then invaded her husband Tommy’s “man cave” to admire his vast collection of military memorabilia.

A pilot for a new show on the INSP network featuring Mason County will be airing on Saturday. The pilot was filmed in Western Mason County (a bit of Kimble County as well) and an amount of 'B-roll' footage was taken around the Mason square; people will recognize the town and the landscape throughout.
