Dancing men with wolves In case you haven’t caught up on the latest news during the last fifty years or so, climate change is the greatest threat mankind faces, or has ever faced, or will ever face, outside of a Miley Virus music video. Anthropogenic (human-caused) climate change is why it’s getting hotter in the summer (or colder), colder in the winter (or hotter), drier in the spring (or wetter), and causes poor coffee production.
Telling Headlines… It was bound to happen, and finally, it did. I overheard the words “artificial intelligence” and “fake news” mentioned in the same sentence. Maybe we need more “real thing” topics. Coca-Cola sold gazillions of its products with its “real thing” claim years ago. During our youth, we placed great trust in mass media news, and were wary of products deemed to be “artificial,” far removed from the “real thing.”… ***** Many playground argumen ...
Happy Easter. Spring is really here when we celebrate Easter. Christians will celebrate the risen Christ. Make time to be with family and friends for this special day. There will be a Good Friday Service at 6 on April 19 in front of the cross at the Art United Methodist Church.
Easter. Sunday. Always. Always Sunday. Resurrection. Salvation. End of Lent. Forty days of fasting. And period of reflection. Christ crucified Friday. Risen from the dead Sunday. Christians started celebrating Easter with a feast around 33 A.D. Flowers are also a big part of Easter. Symbolizing rebirth. Lilies, daffodils. Red tulips. For Christ’s blood. Easter. From “Eostre.” The pagan Germanic goddess of fertility. Which also explains the traditi ...
Spring Awakens - Ahhhhchoo! It is a part of the cycle of the earth. Each season in its own time, arriving in its annual cycle based upon the tilt of the planet and its rotation around the sun.Summer turns into fall, fall into winter, and winter into spring. Though there is a running joke about there only being two seasons in Texas (hot, and hotter), Mason lies in a temperate zone of the state and enjoys a bit of each of the seasons.
Memories of Chris We have know Chris for 10 plus years. She was our neighbor; but she was more than a good neighbor; she was a great friend. She was intelligent, cheerful and kind. Our conversations cover all facets of life: politics, health issues, local and global circumstances and events. Her standings on issues were based on sound reasoning and understanding.
Chocolate Pecan Skillet Cookie courtesy: Taste of Home This great recipe produces a 12 inch sized chocolate chip cookie for you (and others, if you wish) to enjoy. You can change it around a bit by using M&M’s, chocolate chunks, peanut butter chips, or just about anything else you may have ever tried to use in the classical chocolate chip cookie! Ingredients: 1 cup butter 1 cup sugar 1 cup packed brown sugar 2 large eggs, at room temperature 2 teaspoons vanilla 3 cups all- ...
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for April 16th! Lorrie Hess and Karen Kuhlmann will be here to tell about their amazing hike of the Appalachian Trail! And I want to thank all of the Friends of the Library executive board and members and volunteers who worked the Book and Bake Sale and brought baked goods.
Movin’ on up Those of you packing a few extra pounds around will be happy to hear that weight loss is a negative thing. If you’ve been considering the possibility of maybe thinking about starting to mull over the idea of beginning to get in shape, don’t. According to some students at Dickinson College, promotion of improved health is a dangerous narrative.
Now Isn’t That Special?... A common practice when decision-makers arrive in Washington, D. C. is to check common sense at the door. There’s daily evidence of “bonehead” decisions that make us wonder about competencies. The other day, President Trump hit replay when citizens came unstuck with Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ announcement that the federal government would no longer fund Special Olympics. She, too, quickly “pedaled backwards,” finding out how special the Spec ...
