I hope you had a nice rain. I don’t think it was enough to measure at our house. Reports were higher in the eastern part of the county. We will take any raindrops we get. We would love to get enough to wash some of the oak pollen away.

Deciding What's Good for Mason
For the last couple of months, groups working with the City of Mason Commission and the Planning and Zoning Board, have been asking questions of the Mason community. Their queries are fairly straightforward: What does Mason need that it doesn't currently have? What does Mason have that it doesn't need?

In my effort to get as many folks as possible to do some baking, I’ve been researching lots of recipes to see it there is a really quick and easy way for busy cooks to put some home-made goodies on the table. The Jiffy Mix company has been around a long time, and they make a lot more mixes than just Corn Bread Muffin Mix!

Green Raw Deal
Well, we’re all doomed. If you don’t have your affairs in order, you have just over a decade before the end comes. It’s inevitable, now that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal plan failed in the Senate. Before long the waters will begin to rise and cover the coastal areas, which might not be such a bad thing, if it only meant the demise of California and the Eastern seaboard, but Corpus Christi and Rockport, Texas will also go under.
He’ll Do to Ride the River With…
Many Texans--and no doubt some abiding outside our borders--have used the expression for years: “He’ll do to ride the river with.”
We give little thought to its origin, but typically it is used to convey highest praise for others in whom we have confidence--whether we’re fording a river, or even if we don’t have a horse underneath us.
They say it originated a century and a half ago, when cowboys herded cattle to northern railheads.
Spring in Texas struck again. We have had so many pretty, warm days. Then a little cold spell came through. Although this happens annually, we always seemed surprised and upset by the cool weather. I don’t start cleaning up my yard until the oak blooms fall. It is hard enough to breath in the house, but out in the yard where every step makes a green cloud rise, I am not ready for the sneezing.

The Ones Who Came Before...
When we talk about Mason, it's often a very narrow definition of just the people who were here all their lives, or the people who live here now. We talk about our ancestors, we talk about our families and friends, we talk about our contemporaries. But, through the years, there have been many other people who have been part of our community, even if they were here for only a short time.
Last week, I got news that one of those people who were an integral part of ...
